Function / Position Summary
The primary purpose is to manage the facilities security and emergency management operations. This includes receiving emergency calls, monitoring security systems, visitor controls, communications and life safety notifications. This position will work in tandem with all schools. and Operations to administer the building safety and security and respond to crisis needs at schools, all while implementing the "best practices" safety guidelines, procedures, equipment and training to ensure a safe, health and accident-free work environment for staff.
Job Duties / Responsibilities
• Manage phone calls and district wide emergency response to provide support and resources to schools and district buildings for security and safety needs.
• Manage the activities of school safety and security needs and oversee all organizational security and safety mitigation, prevention, planning, response and recovery needs.
• Work with building administration and Operations to ensure safety and security at building events, to include after school events.
• Work with BASCO and Safety Operations Manager, to include review of camera surveillance systems. 
• Work with District Communications in providing communication to staff, students and families for crisis needs.
• Provide Bi-monthly meetings with School Resource Officers and Local Law Enforcement of schools incorporated within District U-46
• Annual yearly meeting with emergency responders to review school emergency response plans and protocols
• Work with the District Safety Manager to oversee the School Safety Intern Program.
• Supervise security for School Board meetings.
• Ensure all schools are trained in security procedure compliance, conduct security audits of school buildings,  and assist principals with drills and training.
• Oversee the operation of security systems, communications and equipment program management.
• Oversee safety and security needs at District wide graduation events
• Liaison with Plant Operations, working with County Election Committees to provide safety and security needs for yearly elections at our designated schools.
• Review and update safety and security plans, protocols and audits to ensure compliance with IL school code, and state and federal requirements.
• Provide recommendation and implementation plan to improve current systems.
• Train and monitor safety programs to reduce frequency of accidents and injuries; assists in minimizing overall workers’ compensation costs.
• Schedule and oversee Executive Safety Committee quarterly meetings (4)
• Work with administrators to investigate severe accidents and injuries; recommends and/or coordinates corrective actions.
• Encourage employees and supervisors to report all unsafe conditions immediately and schedule or coordinate repairs as soon as possible.
• Encourage employees and supervisors to report any injury that occurs on the job, even a slight cut or strain, immediately.
• Other duties as assigned
Education
• Associate’s degree required.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Five years of emergency responder experience.
• Preferred- Three years of School Resource Officer.
• National Incident Management System (NIMS) certification
Experience / Knowledge
• Must display excellent problem solving and people management skills.
• Computer skills and knowledge with Microsoft, and Google Applications.
• Display professional leadership skills.
• Ability to review and evaluate operating procedures and recommends improvements.
• Ability to provide high level of customer service to schools and communities.
• Utilizing technology in the implementation of comprehensive school safety programs.
• Liaison with emergency partners in school safety.
• Efficient written and verbal communication skills.
• Knowledge of Osha regulations and willing to obtain OSHA Safety Training. 
Physical Demands
• Ability to work in a very fast paced and stressful environment.
• Ability to work long hours as needed.
• Ability to work on a computer over a major portion of the work day.
• Good physical health, ability to do heavy manual labor and lift 75 pounds.
• Ability to sit, stand, kneel, stoop, climb stairs and walk for extended periods of time.
Terms of Employment
• This is a full-time, exempt, salaried position with a 260-day work year. Salary and benefits are as established by the Board of Education
The salary range for this position is $85,602.00 - $128,410.00. It is our typical practice to hire in between the minimum and midpoint ($106,999.00).

Function / Position Summary
Assist with safety objectives for all schools within the district. Assignments will include special projects and/or programs to ensure safety in all schools.
 
Note: This is a college intern program and requires that the applicant is enrolled in a Graduate or Undergraduate practicum or intern program, or the equivalent.
 
Job Duties / Responsibilities
• Participate in training sessions along with teachers and administrative staff.
• Inspect and test safety equipment that is currently in place. Note failed units and advise maintenance regarding repairs.
• Conduct inspections at schools for safety and security procedures, equipment, and process. Make corrective and preventive actions to correct deficiencies.
• Check for proper procedures within specified schools (Security Checks).
• Become National Incident Management System (NIMS) certified in ICS (Incident Command System) 100, 200, 700, and 800.
• Review studies and reports on past safety issues within the district. Summarize and recommend additional or alternative emergency plans.
• Assist with operational drills and evaluate emergency response actions. Adjust emergency response plans and procedures to reflect improved efficiency as appropriate.
• Work with the Health Services Department and School Nurses on inventory control, public health messages and school attendance.
• Attend meetings as requested.
• Review all School District Safety Materials.
Education
• Graduate or Undergraduate student currently enrolled in a Criminal Justice or Public Health Educational Program.
Experience / Knowledge
• Good organizational skills
• Strong ability to communicate ideas
• Proficient in MS Word, Excel and Office
Physical Demands
• Ability to work on a computer over a major portion of the work day
Terms of Employment
• 320 hours, 4 hours per day, for approximately 4 months. This is a temporary position with a maximum of 320 hours for a four-month period; position then terminates.
• Criminal Background Check is required
• Salary and benefits as established by the Board of Education.
Salary Information
• $14.10 per hours
