    WORK SCHEDULE: Full-time, year round position; 8 hours per day; 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. 
    On call during the winter months for snow removal.

    CLASSIFICATION: B-3-2

    SALARY: $26.46 per hour (entry level) to $30.83 plus an additional rate based upon licenses held.

    Job Summary: Train, assign, review and coordinate the work of assigned grounds personnel. Perform a variety of skilled grounds keeping duties on school grounds, athletic fields and parking lots. Performs routine repairs, service and maintenance on grounds keeping & trucking equipment and tools. Maintain the irrigation systems and insure proper ground moisture on athletic fields. Order and receive parts, schedule maintenance of vehicles and equipment, maintain inventory of parts and tools.

    Essential Functions:
    • Complies with all School District, State and OSHA policies.
    • Assigns daily/weekly service and work to grounds staff.
    • Review work orders, keep records and submit reports as required.
    • Assist the Facilities Assistant Manager in scheduling and training of staff as needed.
    • Train, provide leadership, and work direction to assigned grounds staff and substitutes.
    • Assist the Facilities Assistant Manager in reviewing the landscape, athletic fields and grounds condition of the District’s school sites and other properties.
    • Confer and coordinate with Facilities Assistant Manager regarding scheduling of grounds work and broadleaf management and fertilizing.
    • Perform and oversee the spraying of herbicides and other types of sprays on athletic fields, fences, trees, hedges, garden areas and other locations as directed.
    • Principles and practices in the safe application of chemicals including but not limited to: growth regulators, herbicides, and fertilizers.
    • Organizes and ensures the cleaning of the grounds office, welding bay, wash bay, repair shop and alleyway to include all vehicles and equipment assigned to the grounds department.
    • Completes all duties listed on the daily schedule and maintains daily upkeep of assigned area and equipment.
    • Performs custodial duties when needed or directed.
    • Ensures building and property is secure during your shift and reports incidents and hazardous conditions to the Facilities Assistant Manager
    • Operates motorized equipment used for grounds upkeep, snow removal and cleaning.
    • Performs a variety of semi-skilled duties which includes but is not limited to: mowing, trimming, turf maintenance, removal of snow and ice, preparation and maintenance of athletic fields, installation and removal of bleachers, fence repair, parking lot repairs, irrigation repair, tree trimming, but not limited to these duties.
    • Moves up to 50 pounds of project materials and/or tools to remote locations.
    • Stand on ladders, and platform lifts at heights up to 30 feet for extended periods of time.
    • Performs essential maintenance to the facility or equipment which may involve, but not limited to the following activities: reaching, crouching; kneeling; shoveling; working in narrow and/or confining spaces: underground, overhead, and at ground level; twisting of the waist, shoulders, and legs; and lying on stomach and/or back.
    • Sprinkler system maintenance and repair.
    • Operate, service and maintain a variety of grounds maintenance equipment, tools and machinery.
    • Operate small and medium size district trucks including dump trucks, tractors, loaders, skid steers, salt trucks, trucks with plows and trailers.
    • On-call snow removal overtime is required.
    • Cover absences in another facility trade departments as needed.
    • Performs other duties within the level of responsibility of position as assigned by the Director of Operations or the Coordinator of Facilities Services.
                                               
    Employment Requirements:
    • High School Diploma or GED required.?
    • Current Class B Commercial Driver’s License with air brake endorsement at time of hire.
    • Operators must be insurable at all times as determined by the District’s Insurance Company.
    • Random drug testing.
    • Two (2) years of successful work experience performing a wide variety of grounds keeping and snow removal work preferably in a school environment.
    • At least one (1) year of this experience should include the application of herbicides and fertilizers.
    • Prior experience as a lead worker is desirable
     
    Required Skills:.
    • Establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships and effectively communicate using tact, patience and courtesy in a manner that reflects positively on the District.
    • Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
    • Exceptional customer service skills.
    • Excellent communication skills are required.
    • Honesty, taking responsibility for your actions and a positive attitude required.
    • Basic principles of leadership, training, and providing direction to others.
    • Basic computer and software including Microsoft E-mail internet computer applications, and maintenance job tracking applications. 
    • Mathematics used in calculating areas, flow rates, irrigation requirements, and other grounds specific calculations.
    • Knowledge and ability to service, repair and maintain grounds vehicles and equipment.
    • Willingness to work extra hours during inclement weather.
    • Willingness to learn and share new and better methods with supervisors.
