    The principal objective of the Health Office Nurse is to provide expeditious care for student health, injuries, and/or illnesses, thereby enhancing student health and fostering student learning. The Health Office Nurse is required to exhibit proficiency and willingness in collaborating with medically delicate and/or cognitively challenged students, as well as possessing the capability to execute technical nursing duties.

    Responsibilities:
    • Administer medications, both simple and complex, to students under the guidance of a licensed school nurse and in accordance with school policy (for example, Gastrostomy tube (G-tube), wound dressing, catheterization).
    • Assist in conducting school screenings such as vision, hearing, and early childhood screenings under the supervision of a Licensed School Nurse
    • Collaborate with the Licensed School Nurse in developing services for students with special needs (such as technical nursing procedures, homebound services, transportation Medications).
    • Administer first aid, emergency, and episodic care in alignment with their nursing licensure and expertise.
    • Prevent the transmission of communicable diseases by gathering student immunization data in compliance with State regulations.
    • Work harmoniously with the faculty and staff of the institution to provide healthcare services to all students.
    • Maintain accurate documentation.
    • Ensure confidentiality by following the regulations of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)

    Qualifications: 
    • Minimum requirement - Current Minnesota Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license or Registered Nurse (RN).
    • CPR and first aid certificate required
    • Proficient in using electronic health records
    • Knowledge of and experience working with children with special health needs
    • Experience managing chronic health conditions
    • Ability to engage effectively and positively with employees at all organizational levels and various partners
