    Description:
    Day to day substitute paraprofessional or clerical-office staff positions. Variety of positions in a school setting.

     

    General Education, Library Media or Spanish Immersion ESP Substitute Hourly Rate of pay is  $19.00.

     

    Special Education ESP Substitute jobs include DCD-MM, DCD-SP, ASD, ECSE, EBD or TBI.  The hourly rate is $20.25

     

    Special Education ESP Substitute jobs that are "Intensive" are paid the hourly rate of $21.25.

     

    Security ESP Substitute jobs are paid the hourly rate of  $20.25

     


    Application Procedure:
    Complete an online application. 
    It is preferred but not required for applicants hold 48 college semester credits. 
    If an applicant does not have college transcripts, proof of the Para Pro test scores will be accepted. 
    The passing score in Minnesota is 460.  Please visit www.ets.org for more information about the Para Pro test. 
     
    We are in need of substitute paraprofessionals to work in the Special Education and General areas listed below.  
    If you have experience working in the special education fields: i.e. Autism, DCD-MM, DCD-SP, Emotionally Behaviorial Disorder,
    your application will be considered for immediate employment.  

    Selected qualified candidates will receive an email with additional information.
    The hiring process will begin immediately for applicants interested in working only as a day to day substitute.
    Substitute employees hired and working the previous school year automatically cover absences at the beginning of the following school year.

    Substitute employees are paid twice a month. 

    Applicants are required to start working within two weeks of scheduling and attending a substitute orientation.
    Selected candidates will receive an email confirmation from the Office of Human Resources with additional details regarding orientation.

    On Boarding consists of a 20-30 minute overview of the district absence reporting system called Red Rover along with reviewing policies and procedures.

    If you are interested in Substitute employment for the 2024-2025 school year, please submit your application on or after August 18, 2024. 
    Applications will be reviewed on or about that date in the order they are received.  The hiring process will begin on or about September 4, 2024. 
    Substitute teacher training will begin on or about September 9, 2024. 

    If you have no experience in classroom teaching, Rochester Public Schools offers paid training!

    Rate of Pay:  
    A full day is $200 per day.  One must work at least 7 hours or more.
    A half day is $100.  One must work 3 hours and 30-59 minutes.   
    If working less than the parameters listed above, one would be paid the hourly rate of $27.58 times the amount of hours worked.

    All district employees are paid on the 15th and the last business day of the month.

    Qualifications:

    *Any type of current Minnesota Teaching License. Pending, expired and out of state licenses cannot be accepted. 
    Please visit the Minnesota Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board website on how to obtain a Minnesota Teaching License.
    The Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board (PELSB) offers a Three-Year, Short Call Substitute license to applicants who have a bachelor’s degree or higher in any subject. 
    PELSB has changed the applicant requirements so take a moment and read through the "New Requirements".

    IMPORTANT NOTE
    Rochester Public Schools will reimburse you for the cost of the Substitute Short Call license once you have worked five full days (8:00am-3:30pm or 8:45am-4:15pm) for actual teacher absences. 
    Save your email receipt from PELSB as you will be asked to submit the proof of payment at a later date.

    Additonal Requirements:
    *Experience having worked in an urban, multicultural education field desirable.

    *Availability and flexibility in your schedule to accommodate the District's day to day needs.
    Flexibility is vital.  There could be times you could be asked to change classrooms or take on additional classes. 

    *Knowledge of subject matter, classroom management techniques and best practices.
                          
    Application Procedure:

    Applicants will be contacted via email with substitute On-Boarding information.

    Hiring process & On-Boarding consists of two phases
    Phase I - Once your employment criminal background check has been reviewed and approved, you will be sent an email with instructions how to schedule an appointment to visit the Office of Human Resources.
    The HR appointment will take 20-30 minute. You will receive an ID badge and get registered in all the Technology systems needed to substitute teach. 
    We will review the district absence reporting system called Red Rover along with reviewing procedures.

    This video will demostrate how to set up your availability.    Download the APP to your cell phone in advance! 
    Phase II - During your HR appointment, you will be shown how to schedule your training days.
    Hired applicants are required to complete a minimum of two days of training with one of the designated district substitute teacher trainers. 
    Applicants are required to start working within two weeks of completing a criminal background check and visiting the Office of Human Resources.
    Once your training is completed, you can start working on your own!
