Job Summary: 
Perform grounds maintenance as well as related general maintenance tasks.
 
Qualifications:
High school graduate or trade school apprentice in a related job field. Prior landscape experience preferred.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
 
1. General Administration
 
1. Complete mowing operations including cutting and trimming turf areas.
2. Complete snow removal to ensure that walkways, drives, and parking lots are clear of snow and ice.
3. Complete duties related to the provision of outdoor skating and sledding.
4. Complete tree removal and trimming to ensure that all trees and shrubs are professionally maintained.
5. Complete ball field maintenance.
6. Complete routine litter pick-up and related duties to ensure that all grounds are kept clean.
7. Assists with installation and maintenance of path systems, storm drains, and outdoor facilities.
8. Assists with set-ups related to ongoing athletics programs, special events, and recreational activities.
9. Accomplish job assignments with a minimal amount of supervision.
10. Direct and supervise full-time and part-time employees in assigned tasks. 
11. Responsible for the proper care and use of all equipment.
12. Maintain open communications with immediate supervisors and staff. 
13. Perform all job assignments in a professional and efficient manner.
14. Other duties as assigned through immediate supervisors.
 
B.    Customer Service
 
1. Greet all visitors in a friendly manner.
2. Be courteous at all times.
3. Respond to telecommunications and e-mail in a timely manner.
4. Provide customers with accurate information in all district communications.
 
C.    Safety, Health, and Loss Control
 
1. Support, promote, or effect positive changes to all safety, health, and loss control policies.
2. Be familiar with the Employee Safety Manual.
3. Be familiar with the safe operation of any equipment necessary in accomplishing required tasks.
4. Provide all injury, illness, and/or related health information to the Lombard Park District to assign tasks to prevent potential employee injuries or illnesses.
 
Marginal Functions
 
1. Working knowledge of turf care and maintenance.
2. Assist supervisors in accident investigations and safety inspections as required.
3. Provide input on problem solving and efficient routine tasks.
 
Psychological Considerations
 
1. Staff must work closely with co-workers.
2. Staff must work around general public/park patrons.
3. Staff must work under the direction and supervision of immediate supervisor.
 
Physiological Considerations
 
1. Staff may be exposed to chemicals (i.e. fertilizers, weed killers, cleaning materials).
2. Staff must be able to lift push or roll heavy objects without bending or twisting restrictions.
 
Environmental Considerations
 
1. Staff will be exposed to weather conditions, including extremes of heat and cold.
2. Employee will use required protective clothing such as :
                    Ear protection                             Helmets/hard hats
                    Respirators                                 Eye protection
                    Chaps                                        Leather type safety work boot
                    Protective gloves                       Disposable (chemical) overalls
Cognitive Considerations
 
1. Staff must be able to follow directions and complete tasks with effective and safe results.
2. Staff exercise good judgment and safety awareness in the completion of tasks.
 
Recommendations for Accommodation
 
1. Assignment of work teams is intended to provide workers with necessary assistance to complete heavy lifting.
2. Other situations requiring accommodations will need to be analyzed more specifically.
 
Requirements
 
1. Ability to operate or be trained on heavy equipment (i.e. tractors, backhoe, skid loader, tree space, and chipper).
2. Ability to operate or be trained on mowing equipment, snow removal equipment, and chain saws.
3. Ability to operate or be trained on mobile stage and provide related stage set-ups.
4. Knowledge and ability to assist with customary construction and repair projects. 
5. Illinois pesticide operator’s license or availability to acquire it within one year of hire.
6. Possess a valid driver’s license.
7. Be able to lift 50 lbs. Encourage to use mechanical or manual assistance for lifting over 50 lbs.
8. Effective communications skills to deal with the public and fellow employees. 
9. Become familiar with employee safety manuals and related training.
10. A flexible work schedule is required, may work weekends and be on call for a possible emergency.

Pay: $16 Hourly

Essential Functions and Responsibilities 
A.   General Administration
 
1. Assist with mowing operations including cutting and trimming grass to ensure all grass areas are professionally maintained.
2. Assist with routine trash collection and related duties to ensure that all grounds areas are kept clean at all times.
3. Accomplish work assignments with minimal supervision.
4. Responsible for proper care and use of all maintenance equipment.
5. Maintain an open line of communication with immediate supervisor and staff.
6. Assist with snow removal to ensure that walkways, drives, and parking lots are accessible.
7. Assist with athletic field preparations and maintenance.
8. Other duties as assigned through immediate superisor.
