Salary Range: $44,518-$82,959
Benefits: The teacher benefits include contributions to health, dental, and life insurance plans, with the district covering a portion of premiums. Full-time eligible teachers can access the district's Group Health Plan and Health Savings Accounts (HSA) if enrolled in a high-deductible health plan, with contributions up to $968.57/month in 2024-25. If eligible, the school district contribution toward dental insurance is $59.14/month for the 2024-25 school year, and the contribution toward life insurance is $20.69/month for the same period. Sick leave accrues at 12 days annually, with up to 48 hours designated as Earned Sick and Safe Time (ESST). Unused sick leave is unlimited, while ESST accrues up to 20 days. Additionally, teachers have access to bereavement, jury, military, and unpaid childcare leave along with a matched 403(b) plan and professional development opportunities. Reporting Relationship: The Special Education Instructor reports directly to the Building Principal
East Grand Forks, MN is a city with a population of approximately 9,000 and located in the heart of the Red River Valley in Northwest Minnesota. It borders Grand Forks, ND and is very close to the University of North Dakota and Northland Community and Technical College. The district's K-12 enrollment is approximately 1950 students as well as a thriving preschool program. The district has four separate school buildings housing grades PreK-2, 3-5, 6-8 and 9-12. Position Summary: The Special Education Teacher is responsible for supporting students with diverse learning needs while ensuring compliance with state and federal special education laws. The Special Education Teacher helps students achieve their full potential while fostering a supportive and accessible classroom experience.
Essential Duties: The Special Education Teacher will deliver personalized instruction and support to students with disabilities, ensuring their academic, social, and emotional development. This includes the design and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), curriculum adaptation, progress assessment, and targeted interventions to address diverse learning needs. The teacher will work collaboratively with general education teachers, support staff, and parents to foster an inclusive educational environment and facilitate the integration of students with disabilities into general education settings. Through differentiated instruction and a student-centered approach, the teacher will promote student success and overall growth.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop lesson plans specialized to meet the learning needs and abilities of students with disabilities.
Collaborate with general education teachers, administration, support staff and guardians to develop and implement Individualized Education Plans for students with special needs.
Develop and implement behavior intervention plans for special education students.
Execute assessment and communicate student progress with parents/guardians and report student performance for local and state records.
Responsible for good data collection expertise and the ability to monitor student progress.
Collaborate with and supervise special education paraprofessionals.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
A bachelor’s degree in special education or a related field from an accredited institution.
Applicants must have or be eligible to obtain a MN teaching license qualified to teach special education.
Preference may be given to applicants licensed in multiple areas including SLD, DCD, EBD, LD, ASD or a combination of these licenses.
Alternative pathways, such as tiered licensure or an Out-of-Field Permission, may be available for individuals who do not meet all traditional requirements but wish to teach special education in Minnesota.
