Class Description
This 50-minute elementary specials class is an exciting and immersive experience where students step outside the traditional classroom to explore exciting science concepts and the wonders of nature. Through hands-on activities, they will investigate the natural world, conduct science experiments, and make discoveries about the environment around them.
The class will focus on NGSS-aligned science exploration encouraging curiosity and critical thinking as students engage in outdoor learning activities like nature walks, field investigations, and eco-friendly project-based learning. It's a dynamic blend of science, exploration, and fun, designed to spark a lifelong love of learning and a deeper connection to the environment.

Preparation for 2025-26 School Year:
- 2 years of planning, collaboration, and support from Outdoor Discovery Center
- *2024-25 School Year- School Day trainings or Paid Schedule C to plan out 12-week Units for YK/Kdg-5th Grade
- *2024-25 School Year- Paid Panther Pathways stipend to pilot units during Winter 2/Spring season
Responsibilities:
- Teaching 6 sections of grades YK- 5th Grade daily
- Each class meets one time a week for 50 minutes
- An active member of this Science Exploration PLC (Professional Learning Community)
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
- Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires the substantial use of the upper extremities and back muscles.
- Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
- Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken work; those activities where detailed or important spoken instructions must be conveyed to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
- Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction, and having the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and making fine discriminations in sound.
- Repetitive motions: Making substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. The worker is subject to environmental conditions.
- The worker should provide consistent and reliable attendance.
