    Qualifications:  

     
    • Registered Nurse or Practical Nurse licensed in Georgia

    • CPR/AED certified (BLS preferred)

    • Direct health/patient care experience

    • Strong planning and organizational skills

    • Excellent communication skills.

    Reports To:  Coordinator of Health Services

    Supervises:  N/A

    Primary Job Goal:  

     

    To facilitate positive student responses to normal development; promote health and safety; intervene with actual and potential health problems; provide case management services; by actively collaborating with others to build student and family capacity for adaptation, self-management, self-advocacy and learning. Provide age-appropriate, culturally & ethically sensitive care. Maintain a safe environment. Educate parents, staff and students about healthy practices and treatment modalities. Coordinate care across settings and among caregivers. Manage information. Communicate effectively. Utilize technology. Support the district’s mission ensuring all students are provided a safe, secure, and wholesome learning environment.   

    Performance Duties & Responsibilities:

     
    1. Organize and maintain the school clinic.

    2. Administer medications and treatments to students based on physicians orders, parent authorization, School Board Policy and The Nurse Practice Act.

    3. Coordinate and maintain health care for students with chronic illnesses.

    4. Provide health education as needed or required.

    5. Provide staff training and education as needed or required.

    6. Utilize technology as appropriate to the function of the job.

    7. Obtain CEU’s as required by the Georgia Board of Nursing.

    8. Conduct CPR/AED training for system employees annually. 

    9. Collaborates with school personnel and parents on health issues for students.

    10. Implements all screening programs mandated by Georgia Law.

    11. Consult with local physicians regarding health care of students.

    12. Assist with the School System Wellness Program.

    13. Maintain all necessary documentation.

    14. Develop individual health plans as needed for students.

    15. Communicates with parents, school staff and community agencies as needed.

    16. Assist students and parents in identifying and utilizing available community resources.

    17. Provide Health Services Coordinator with all monthly/annual reports.

    18. Perform other duties as assigned. 

     

    Other Functions:
    Daily attendance and punctuality are required for the purpose of ensuring the goals of the work unit may be met.

    Working Environment:
    The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands:
    Lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling. Generally, the job requires 20% sitting, 10% lifting/carrying and 80% standing/walking.
