    Qualifications:  
    1. High school graduates are preferred but not required.
    2. Four or more years’ experience in light equipment operation required.
    3. Some landscaping or gardening experience is helpful.
    4. Heavy work: Frequent lifting of up to 50 lbs. and occasional lifting of 100 lbs. (assisted)

    Primary Job Goal:  
    Maintain in a high state of appearance the grounds, outside areas, and lands of the Troup County schools in support of the district’s mission.

    Performance Duties & Responsibilities:
    • Maintain and operate, safely and responsibly, all equipment required to cut and trim grass and shrubbery.
    • Do re-seeding, grassing, and fertilizing lawn areas as required. Tasks include mowing, edging, trimming, and watering lawns, fields, and other turf areas, as well as edging walkways, removing weeds and leaves, and sweeping litter from assigned areas
    • General grounds cleanup involves removing debris and reporting repair needs; clean out and maintain storm drains and gutters as needed.
    • Assisting with irrigation system installation, maintenance, and repair is another duty, along with performing other grounds maintenance tasks like tree removal and fence repair. Perform light fill and grading in leveling and erosion prevention.
    • Use of pesticides and other sprays to control vegetation and pests.  
    • Operating and maintaining various equipment such as mowers, blowers, and trimmers is also part of the job, along with applying pest control methods as assigned. Maintain operator permits necessary in the performance of assigned duties.
    • Routine lifting of weight in the 25-100 lb. range, assisted and unassisted.
    • Routine lifting of extension ladders.
    • Routine seat time on mowing/grounds equipment averaging 4-6 hours daily and 20 – 30 hours weekly.
    • Perform as a utility man in other tasks as required. 
    • Additionally, maintaining athletic fields includes marking and maintaining play areas. Loading, unloading, and transporting supplies and equipment is also required. 
    • Routine lifting of weights, handling extension ladders, and spending regular hours on mowing/grounds equipment are part of the role.
    • Fulfill other job-related duties as assigned.

    Other Functions: 
    Daily attendance and punctuality are required to ensure the goals of the work unit are met.  Applicants must be prepared to work in various weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, or snow. The nature of our work requires employees to be adaptable and capable of performing their duties regardless of outdoor weather conditions.

    Working Environment:
    The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: 
    Lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling. Generally, the job requires 30% sitting, 70% walking, 40% lifting/carrying, and 70% standing. 

    Evaluation:  System evaluation form completed annually by the Director of Maintenance.
