Bilingual Tutor Position
 
TITLE:                    Tutor (Part-time)
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
• At least two years of college course work successfully completed
• Ability to manage student programs under the supervision of a certified staff member
• Proficient in English and the target language
  • Haitian/Creole/English
  • French/English
  • Spanish/English
• Dependable
 
 
PREFERRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
• Experience working in a classroom
• Experience/training working with English Learners
 
REPORTS TO:      Building Principal and designated ESOL Teacher
 
JOB GOAL:          To ensure that every child assigned be provided with an ongoing educational program as directed by a certified staff member.
 
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
1. Works with a certified staff member to ascertain the educational needs and plans an instructional program for assigned students.
2. Under the supervision of a certified staff member, implements an instructional program for each assigned student.
3. Meets with assigned students on a regularly scheduled basis to provide small group instruction in a push-in setting.
4. Works collaboratively with  certified staff members  to discuss the progress of each assigned student.
5. Keeps and maintains reports on student progress and records of mandated weekly instructional minutes for each student.
6. Assumes responsibility for obtaining appropriate textbooks and other teaching materials from a certified staff member.
7. Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal and/or ESOL Teacher.
 
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:            Compensation as determined by the contract between the Board of Education and the AFT, $18.00-$33.00 based on degree level.

TITLE:                                          Homebound Tutor 
REPORTS TO:                              Executive Director of School and Family Supports
SUPERVISES:                               N/A
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:       Up to ten hours per student per week
PRIMARY FUNCTION:                To ensure that every child assigned to caseload be provided with an ongoing educational program as directed.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
This description of Homebound Tutor is for identification and administrative purposes only. It is not intended to be a complete statement of all duties, which may be assigned or adjusted by the Superintendent of Schools according to varying needs.
1. Ascertain the educational needs and the physical and learning capabilities of assigned students. 
2. Implement an instructional program for each assigned student.
3. Meet with each assigned student on a regularly scheduled basis to provide instruction.
4. Keep, maintain, and file such reports and records as the Office of Special Services may require, including time sheets and student progress.
5. Assume responsibility for obtaining appropriate textbooks and other teaching materials.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:            
• Current Certified NLPS Staff Member
• Ability to provide appropriate instruction to assigned students
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bilingual (English and Spanish, English and Haitian Creole, English and French, English and Portuguese)       
PERFORMANCE EVALUATION: Annually by Executive Director of School and Family Supports or designee
 
SALARY:  $40.00/hour
