POSITION INFORMATION:
           
Supervisor:	Mr. Darrin Wills, Director of Transportation
Employment Period:	10 months
Employment Status:	Part-time
Hiring Range (H-07):	$14.61 -- $19.03 hour
Start Date:	24-25 School Year

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
•  Operates a van (or similar vehicle) to provide safe transportation for students to and from schools and other activities.
•  Drives van along designated routes. Picks up and drops off students as scheduled.
•  Ensures that the vehicle can be operated safely before driving and conducts pre-trip safety inspection to include observing visual defects and checking       operating systems to include brakes, horn, lights, emergency flashers, etc.
• Performs post-trip inspections of the vehicle. Ensures that all passengers have been dropped off and that no personal belongings have been left behind. Cleans vehicle as needed.
• Supervises conduct/behavior of student passengers to maintain discipline. Contacts school officials, as necessary, to discuss concerns regarding student conduct.
• Ensures vehicle is available for all scheduled maintenance and inspections.
• Reports any accidents immediately and completes necessary paperwork.
• Heavy lifting up to 50 pounds may be required in lifting and/or carrying students in the case of an emergency.
• Maintains a Virginia driver’s license and maintains Red Cross first aid / CPR certification.
• Obeys all traffic laws and transportation practices as outlined in the Transportation Employee Handbook, School Board Policy, and local ordinances.
• Performs bus attendant job duties as necessary.
• Other related duties as required.
 
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
 
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Virginia Driver’s License
• Successful completion of auxiliary driver and bus attendant training course (training provided)
• Excellent driving record (at least +3 driving points)
• Minimum age of 21 at time of employment
•  American Red Cross first aid and CPR course or an approved equivalent within the first three months of employment and successfully renew certification as required

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
• Assists students while boarding and disembarking the school bus or auxiliary vehicle. Where required, secures each student with harnesses, seat belts, wheelchair locks, car seats, or other safety equipment as appropriate.
• Learns routes, schedules, and pick-up points and assists substitute drivers with directions.
• Assists driver in conducting evacuation drills.
• Assists driver with pre-trip safety inspections. Ensures special equipment, such as car seats, wheelchairs, straps, and tie downs are in proper working order and safely secured to the vehicle.
• Supervises student conduct to maintain discipline. Submits documentation to school officials and transportation supervisor, as necessary, to discuss concerns regarding student behavior.
• Assists driver in maintaining a clean, organized, and well-stocked vehicle interior.
• Assists driver in ensuring that all special education, pre-kindergarten, and kindergarten students are released to an authorized adult.
• Performs daily post-trip inspection of the bus or auxiliary vehicle, which requires walking the full length of the bus, at the completion of each route. Ensures that all passengers have been dropped off and that no personal belongings have been left behind.
• Maintains American Red Cross CPR and first aid certifications.
• Other related duties as assigned.
 
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
 
• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Ability to sit for long periods of time.
• Must be able to push or pull up to 50 pounds; may be required to push or pull up to 30 pounds a day and frequently. Emergency situations may require exceeding these weight limits.
• Standing, twisting, turning, pushing, pulling, bending, crawling, crouching, stooping, and kneeling may be required while handling students  and wheelchairs, and completing pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
• Ability to positively interact and communicate effectively with coworkers, students, parents, and school officials.
• Ability to maintain effective control over passengers to ensure student behavior is not a distraction to the driver.
• Ability and willingness to assist physically, mentally, and emotionally handicapped students in being transported to and from school.

• Drives bus along designated routes. Picks up and drops off students as scheduled.  Assists students to board and exit the bus and get into and out of seats. Helps with lifting, folding, unfolding, positioning, and securing wheelchairs.
• Performs pre-trip safety inspections of the bus. Inspects the quality of tires, lights, and windshield wipers and reports any defective equipment.  Checks fuel and oil levels and adjusts as needed.
• Performs post-trip inspections of the bus. Ensures that all passengers have been dropped off and that no personal belongings have been left behind. Cleans bus as needed.
• Supervises conduct/behavior of student passengers to maintain discipline on the bus. Contacts school officials, as necessary, to discuss concerns regarding student conduct.
• Contacts parents, teachers, principals, and other school officials, as necessary, to discuss
  concerns regarding bus operations, scheduling, and safety.
• Ensures bus is available for all scheduled maintenance and inspections.
• Conducts emergency evacuation drills.
• Reports any accidents immediately and completes necessary paperwork.
• Light lifting up to 25 lbs. in order to carry and secure wheelchairs, car seats, and harnesses. Heavy lifting up to 100 lbs. may be required in lifting and/or carrying special needs students on and off the bus.
• Other related duties as required.
 
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
 
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Commercial driver’s license (not required at time of hire, training provided).
• Successful completion of bus driver training course (training provided).
• Excellent driving record.
• Minimum age of 21 at time of employment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
• Communicates effectively with employees and the public through two-way radio and telephone transmissions. 
• Dispatches buses in an effective, efficient, and safe manner to ensure coverage of all regular, special education, activity, displaced, athletic and field trip runs.
• Ensures coverage of bus routes by assignment of sub drivers/attendants when necessary.
• Maintains a daily log of information concerning bus operations.
• Coordinates bus repairs between drivers and bus garage.
• Makes assignments of spare buses.
• Communicates with Lot Attendants to determine availability of spare buses and lot operations.
• Contacts responsible parties to receive Pre-K, KG, ESL and Special Education students when a parent/guardian is not present to receive child.
• Resolves complaints from community and school personnel.
• Distributes information to bus drivers/attendants.
• Performs a variety of Transportation office clerical tasks.
• Operates EDULOG Routing System.
• Operates SYNOVIA GPS System.
• Drives a school bus as needed.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

 
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
 
• Completion of a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED).
• Preferred experience in school transportation as a driver, scheduler, or dispatcher.
• Working knowledge of school bus transportation operations.
• Working knowledge of school locations and local roadway systems.
• Ability to read, write, communicate effectively in person, by telephone, and with a two-way radio.
• Possession of a Commercial Driver’s License with a School Bus/Passenger endorsement or have the ability to obtain such.
• Ability to collect and organize detailed information and prepare required reports.
• Dispatch experience preferred.
