Salary Range: $20.00/hour ($1.20/hour night differential after between 6AM and 6PM)
Benefits: The custodian benefits include contributions to health, dental, and life insurance plans, with the district covering a portion of premiums. Full-time eligible custodians can access the district's Group Health Plan with contributions up to $922.50/month in 2024-25. If eligible, the school district contribution toward dental insurance is $128.25/month for the 2024-25 school year, and the contribution toward life insurance is $23.08/month for the same period. Sick leave accrues at a rate of 1 hour per month of service with up to 48 hours designated as Earned Sick and Safe Time (ESST). Unused sick leave is unlimited, while ESST accrues up to 20 days. Additionally, custodians have access to bereavement, jury, military, and unpaid childcare leave along with a matched 403(b) plan and professional development opportunities. Reporting Relationship: The Custodian reports directly to the Director of Buildings and Grounds
East Grand Forks, MN is a city with a population of approximately 9,000 and located in the heart of the Red River Valley in Northwest Minnesota. It borders Grand Forks, ND and is very close to the University of North Dakota and Northland Community and Technical College. The district's K-12 enrollment is approximately 1950 students as well as a thriving preschool program. The district has four separate school buildings housing grades PreK-2, 3-5, 6-8 and 9-12. The district also boasts a thriving Preschool Program and lifelong learning opportunities through Community Education.
Position Summary: The Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and well-functioning environment for students, staff, and visitors. Duties include cleaning classrooms and common areas, performing minor maintenance, securing the building, and ensuring compliance with health and safety standards.
Essential Duties: The Custodian performs general cleaning, general maintenance and related duties in school buildings and grounds. Maintains equipment in functional condition. Provides custodial assistance to students, teachers, visitors and others as necessary. Assists with special events and programs. Performs other related tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
Key Responsibilities:
Checks and secures building at beginning and end of shift for the purpose of ensuring the safety and cleanliness of the building.
Cleans rooms, hallways, cafeterias, restrooms, offices, stairways, and other areas of building according to school district standards.
Sweeps, mops, buffs, strips, and waxes floors.
Cleans rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture, and blinds.
Washes walls, ceilings, woodwork, windows, doors, and sills.
Removes graffiti, cleans glass areas.
Replaces light bulbs.
Sets up and breaks down chairs, tables and equipment in meeting rooms, and functional rooms.
Clears snow from entrances and walks, and spreads sand and ice melting chemicals.
Performs grounds-keeping duties, clears debris and maintains grounds.
Receives deliveries and assists in unloading trucks and storing supplies.
Delivers supplies and materials to classrooms, bathrooms and other areas of the building.
Empties wastebaskets; picks up and removes trash and assists in recycling programs.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
Previous custodial, janitorial or maintenance experience is preferred
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, stand for long periods of time, perform repetitive tasks, such as bending, lifting, reaching
Knowledge of cleaning supplies, equipment and safety procedures or willing to learn
Willingness to develop and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, other district staff, students, and members of the public.
Ability to work independently
Basic troubleshooting and minor repair skills are beneficial
Ability to pass a background check, as required for school employees
