Title: Technician II, Routing
Under general supervision, manages and coordinates student transportation records and bus routes in three operating systems (regular, magnet, and exceptional needs programs) for the DeKalb County School District; collaborates with neighboring school systems, parents, students, school administrators, transportation directors and staff to ensure that all students’ transportation needs are met.
Essential Functions:

• Creates and maintains database for student transportation records and bus routes in three operating systems: regular, magnet, and exceptional needs programs.
• Completes and maintains required records within all areas of responsibility including, but not limited to student surveys, route sheets, and route/stop change documentation, and ensures privacy and confidentiality statutes are followed in the process.
• Provides student information for exceptional needs transportation to District Managers
• Coordinates, creates, and maintains bus routes with neighboring school systems for students transported under the McKinney-Vento Act.
• Provides customer service support to students, parents, teachers, school administrators, and transportation staff.
• Monitors and analyzes data related to arrival, layover, and departure times of buses; student load data; and other information (e.g., operator input) to implement routing and scheduling adjustments that ensure safety and efficiency of the transportation system.
• Modifies existing bus routes in three operating systems as needed; creates and maintains bus routes for special programs for students and/or parents during the school year.
• Communicates professionally with schools, parents, and administrators for resolution of issues and/or information updates via web pages, email, and multiline telephones, to ensure positive relationships are maintained while meeting all of the goals of a safe, efficient transportation system.
• Coordinates data and information between the bus routing software and the geographic information system (GIS) software.
• Assists routing supervisor in assessing and analyzing routing structure for efficiency, safety, cost efficiency, and timelines of bus routes.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or GED equivalent required. Associate’s degree or equivalent completed college coursework in transportation, logistics, planning, or closely related area from a Professional Standards Commission approved accredited college or university is preferred.
Minimum of three (3) years of professional level transportation management, geographic information systems, transportation route planning, or closely related experience is required.
