The Office of Public Safety is seeking motivated Crowd Control Specialists. The successful candidate will ensure the flow of stakeholders in a school setting by monitoring stadium or arena activity and undertaking necessary precautions vital to the protection of the staff and students to preserve an environment suitable for the education process.  

Salary Grade/Schedule: PT2000

Title: Crowd Control Specialist

Plan and deliver educational instruction to diverse learners, including those with special needs, in line with state and district standards, and create a safe, engaging learning environment that promotes academic success, physical fitness, and life skills for global citizenship. Perform work independently under moderate supervision, applying foundational knowledge to perform the job effectively.

Essential Job Duties:
• Promptly address incidents, altercations, or any issues within the venue that may compromise guest safety. 

• Immediately report any unusual activities or potential safety concerns to the On-Duty Supervisor. 

• Accurately complete all necessary documentation, including incident and misconduct reports. 

• Monitor venue grounds and entrances to ensure access is granted only to authorized personnel and visitors; at the main entrance, ensure that all guests adhere to the entry screening procedures. 

• Lead initiatives to de-escalate inappropriate behavior effectively. 

• Prioritize the maintenance of a calm, structured, and positive environment. 

• Perform additional duties as assigned. 
Qualifications:
• High school diploma or GED equivalent required. Associate’s degree or equivalent completed college coursework from a Georgia Professional Standards Commission approved accredited college or university preferred 

• Minimum two (2) years working with students, or the public required

• Previous experience working with security issues, safety concerns, and/or social work with high-risk students preferred. Ability to demonstrate the level of proficiency necessary to perform the duties of the specified position.

Title: Security Lead, Campus

The Lead Campus Security will have the responsibility to manage and supervise the campus supervisor officers under the direction of the Chief of Police.

Essential Functions:

• Supervise campus supervisors at assigned posts and in the field assuring policies and procedures are followed.
• Works closely with school site administrators for the development of District Safety.
• Develops campus supervisor training plan for annual training.
• Manages the schedules, attendance, and time requests for campus supervisors to assure compliance of District policy and procedures.
• Monitors campus supervisors radio traffic to ensure compliance.
• Assist the school site administrators and staff in preparing and submitting written employee reviews.
• Provide support to law enforcement, school administration, staff, and students.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• High school diploma or GED equivalent required with a minimum of three (3) years of military, security, and/or law enforcement experience required.
• Bachelor's Degree in Criminal or Juvenile Justice or related area from an accredited college or university preferred. Previous experience working with security issues, safety concerns, and/or social work with high-risk students preferred. Ability to demonstrate the level of proficiency necessary to perform the duties of the specified position.
• Georgia Peace Officer's Standards and Training Council (POST) Certification preferred. First Aid/CPR/AED Certification preferred.

Title: Officer, School Resource

Under general supervision, patrols DeKalb County School District (DCSD) sites and adjacent areas to protect students, staff, equipment and property from criminal activity; responds to security alarms and calls for assistance at DCSD sites; investigates and reports criminal activity; provides indirect supervisory support to Campus Security personnel.

• Enforces traffic laws on and around campus public streets; writes traffic citations and make criminal arrests when needed.
• Responds to dispatcher calls for assistance at sites where disturbances and unruly behavior among students or by adults occur; collaborates with site administrators in making a demonstration of authority to keep order.
• Conducts K-9 searches for illegal drugs on DCSS property and when called on by other agencies; conducts searches of students’ personal effects to determine possession of illegal substances or materials where probable cause exists or the search is incident to an arrest.
• Patrols areas adjacent to schools identified as locations of loitering by students and adults; requests identification of students as appropriate; transports truant students to school or the Truancy Center; transports students home as directed by appropriate administrators with authorization by a sergeant in a marked police vehicle.
• Participates in discussions with individual students, parents and school district staff for the purpose of channeling student activities into acceptable behavior, good attendance and academic achievement.
• Responds to alarm calls at sites to determine if unauthorized entry or faulty operation of an alarm has occurred; resets alarms as needed.
• Performs as instructor for classes on law enforcement topics as well as drug and alcohol awareness.
• Prepares reports about crimes against school system property and offenses against school district personnel or students; coordinates reporting and intervening actions with other law enforcement agencies.
• Serves as a liaison between the community police department and school administration and staff.
• Reports safety hazards observed at sites while on patrol.
• Provides testimony in court when needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
