Title: Sergeant
Ensure the safety and security of the educational community by supervising public safety officers and school resource officers, managing criminal investigations, and directing law enforcement activities. Provide leadership and guidance to a team, ensuring adherence to established policies and procedures.
Essential Functions:
• Manage a functional team within the department.
• Organize programs and processes, establish tasks for the team, and set priorities.
• Oversee and coordinate law enforcement activities, including investigation, public safety, and resource officer supervision, to ensure the safety and security in schools.
• Work on issues requiring the analysis of data and a variety of relevant factors to resolve.
• Identify and resolve operational issues that may fall outside of established guidelines as they arise; recommend process improvements where needed based on sound project workflow principles.
• Direct and supervise School Resource Officers (SROs), monitor their performance and evaluate school safety measures.
• Perform administrative duties such as reviewing reports, coordinating officer assignments, and processing documents for court proceedings or open records requests.
• Respond to critical incidents by determining where to direct, deploy, and coordinate activities.
• Engage in community relations by maintaining communication with school officials, the public, other law enforcement agencies, and social services as needed.
• Attend supervisory staff meetings, participate in the resolution of conflicts, assist with policy revisions, and communicate relevant information to SROs.
• Assign detectives for cases based on priority level and oversee transport officers for arrests and minor calls.
• Maintain daily contact with SROs to address problems and interpret laws/codes.
• Monitor the police radio to deploy officers as required.
• Interact with subordinates, supervisors, and functional peer groups to interpret and explain information as necessary.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
• Bachelor's Degree in Criminal or Juvenile Justice with a minimum of five (5) years of related and/or supervisory experience required.
• Experience should include a minimum of 5 years as a School Resource Officer.
• Georgia Peace Officers Standards and Training PBLE # and Annual Firearms Qualification is required.
