Title: Engineer I, Network
Responsible for the district-wide implementation, administration, and maintenance of the school division’s advanced high-speed network. This role also entails documenting, managing, and ensuring the continuous operation of all network systems.
Essential Functions:
- Monitor and analyze network activity to identify and resolve issues, ensuring system integrity and preventing recurring errors. Troubleshoot, diagnose and resolve network problems.
- Recommend and implement network design improvements and enhancements to increase system availability and performance. Design, implement, and document network infrastructure.
- Configure and maintain routers, switches (including Cisco, Extreme Networks, Juniper, Brocade), and firewalls (Juniper, Palo Alto, Cisco) to ensure optimal network performance.
- Execute assigned project plans, provide timely progress reports, address and escalate impediments, and deliver comprehensive documentation upon project completion.
- Conduct research, analyze findings, and recommend hardware and software changes to address network deficiencies or improve performance.
- Ensure all planned testing activities are completed and technical standards are met.
- Support the design of advanced Core and WAN networks, including IP configuration and routing summarization, with hands-on configuration of routers and switches.
- Stay informed on emerging network technologies and advancements, applying research to improve network operations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
• A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a closely related field, with a minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience required.
• Proven experience with VOIP systems, including Avaya, Mitel, and various Nortel platforms.
• Expertise in branch routers and LAN switches, with preferred knowledge of Cisco, Juniper Networks, and Extreme Networks. Familiarity with Brocade/Ruckus ICX and VeloCloud is a plus.
• Advanced proficiency in networking protocols and technologies such as IOS, NX-OS, EXOS, JUNOS, EIGRP, BGP, GRE, OSPF, MPLS, Spanning Tree, VRRP, LAG, VLANs, SIP, H.323, PRI, SD-WAN, QoS, and TCP/IP.
• Strong proficiency in the latest versions of MS Visio, MS Windows, and MS Office and/or O365.
• Must be skilled in utilizing monitoring and diagnostic tools such as SolarWinds, Fluke, and Wireshark, along with advanced knowledge of PC Microsoft OS system commands.
