    The DeKalb County School District has selected the first cohort of Resident Teacher Interns. Interns will be scheduled to start June 2025.
    The role of the Resident Teacher is that of a full-time student teacher; they will engage in year-long clinical classroom experience while also fulfilling coursework towards a M.A.T. in a full-time graduate program. More specifically, a resident teacher:
    Engages 4 day per week with their Mentor Teacher in a cycle of planning, instruction and reflection in the process of learning high-quality instructional practices that are designed to meet the stated learning objectives for students
    Follows a gradual release schedule for building teaching practices that starts with classroom observations of the mentor teacher and leads to a growing role in classroom instruction and responsibilities.
    Creates and maintains a classroom culture and climate that is positive and inclusive for all students and is grounded in DeKalb County’s mission and vision
    Participates in a regular reflective feedback practice with their Mentor Teacher, Co-Resident Teacher and the Talent Development Coach; Demonstrates a willingness to engage in a cycle of continual improvement and ability to take feedback that is then demonstrated in classroom practices.
    Learn the process of writing, participating in and implementing IEPs and 504 plans for diverse learners
    Maintains regular contact with students’ families regarding student progress, growth and areas of support
    Participates in all building level meetings, practices and processes including Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), grade level and content area meetings and building staff meetings
    Participates in IGNITE residency cohort and district-wide professional developments and meetings
    Maintains accurate complete and correct records as required by state and federal statue, administrative regulation and District policy
    Responsible for meeting all University coursework requirements including assignments, projects, portfolios as assigned by university professors and programs.    
    $30,000 Living supplement
