    Silas Deane Middle School has an opening for a Math Interventionist/Consultant to work with our diverse population of learners. This role works 35+ hours per week (7+ hours per day according to the collective bargaining agreement), Monday through Friday.

    Start Date:  August 18, 2025 (beginning of the 2025-2026 school year)
    Compensation:  $56,162 - $111, 280 (full-time annual)

    The Math Interventionist/Consultant work extensively with students to help them improve specific math skills.  The individual for this position must have a growth mindset, positive attitude and will provide professional development and coaching for staff on strategies for teaching and supporting students in mathematics. The Math Interventionist/Consultant is responsible for supporting student achievement for all tiers in the area of Mathematics. This person will also oversee the schools’ math tutors, SRBI process and is responsible for monitoring, reporting, and communicating student progress and performance to staff and administration. When appropriate, this individual will provide modeling and co-teaching for staff in the classroom setting as well as individual or small group instruction to students who are struggling academically. Collaboration with staff to plan and conduct lessons aimed at the specific strategies needed for success in the academic setting in the areas of mathematics is also an expectation of this position. Other expectations include, but are not limited to the following:
    • Collaborate with teachers to identify the mathematics needs of students, set learning goals and targets and problem solve with teachers to develop best practices for continuous academic growth of students in mathematics;
    • Provide individualized coaching and modeling in Tier 1 classrooms to support evidence-based instruction and effective implementation of the research-based Agile Mind program.
    • Schedule, manage, plan with, and supervise all math tutors;
    • Assist teachers with the collection of student performance data and analysis of data results, and support the sharing of findings with all staff;
    • Chair the SRBI process for math by maintaining all records, overseeing progress monitoring, and assigning students to tutors and scheduling meetings to review progress, enter and exit students from SRBI;
    • Review student achievement and assist with placing students in appropriate mathematics intervention and support services;
    • Teach targeted mathematics intervention to small groups of students (when appropriate) using research-based strategies and resources;
    • Schedule and coordinate both push-in and pull-out math services;
    • Work with the principal and different teams/teacher leaders to report out on math/coaching services within the building and identifying areas of needed growth;
    • Assist students and teachers using software and materials related to math programs, specifically, Agile Mind;
    • Maintain and submit accurate and up-to-date management records of all students’ progress, tracking and reporting scores of all universal assessment scores with the principal;
    • Create, promote, and monitor a school math goal for the school that keeps mathematics at the forefront of our minds;
    • Recognize and celebrate student mathematics achievement;
    • Work with the Assistant Superintendent and other administrators and the team of math consultants across the district to implement practices to support continuous improvement in mathematics teaching and learning;
    • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
     
    Qualifications:
    • Current Connecticut Teacher certification (#029)
    • Knowledge of Math Workshop and Building Thinking Classrooms;
    • Strong technology skills;
    • Previous experience coaching teachers is preferred;
    • Strong knowledge of the SRBI process;
    • Strong leadership and collaboration skills;
    • Strong instruction skills inclusive of oral and written communication.
