Nature and Scope of Job:
The Assistant Principal is responsible for all aspects of Sage Elementary School environments as directed by the principals. The areas of concern are: instructional leadership, curriculum development, evaluation and supervision of staff, staff development, the creation of a safe and orderly environment for students, create a clear and concise school mission and build a positive home-school relationship. Even more specifically, the Assistant Principal must have a strong philosophy which supports a teaming approach to teaching and learning. The Assistant Principal must have a working knowledge of, and possess a major strength in Curriculum Development. Strategic Planning, problem-solving, collaborative skills/methodologies are important considerations.
Job Functions:
Essential Functions:
The Assistant Principal will:
1. Work with the principal in the supervision and evaluation of all staff (certified and classified).
2. Provide instruction for teachers on curriculum development, student assessment and student achievement.
3. Assist the principal in the development of curricular articulation from grade level to grade level and from subject area to subject area.
4. Assist the principal and staff in the development of a school mission which articulates with the District's mission.
5. Be responsible for student discipline within the guidelines established by school and District policy.
6. Assist staff with the development of a policy on student discipline within the classroom.
7. Supervise the maintenance of the building and grounds.
8. Help create an atmosphere of high expectations for all student learning.
9. Communicate effectively with staff and the community.
10. Assist in the coordination of student activities.
11. Assist in the development of the master schedule.
12. Assist in the development of handbooks for faculty and students.
13. Assist in the development of and participate on committees selected to interview and hire new staff.
14. Attend and supervise school-sponsored activities.
15. Assist in the development of a building financial plan and the yearly budget process.
16. Provide assistance and supervision for substitute teachers within the building.
17. Attend all building meetings.
18. Attend all District meetings as assigned by the principal.
19. Assume responsibility for curricular areas and school and student functions as assigned by the building principal.
Other Responsibilities:
1. Will maintain a visible profile for students and staff.
2. Assist with hall and lunchroom supervision on a daily basis.
3. Work as a liaison for students, parents and staff.
4. Be responsible for assigned departments.
5. Continue professional growth.

Knowledge of educational software programs.
Ability to speak clearly and concisely.

Education, License, Certification or Formal Training:
Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
Wyoming Professional Teaching Standards Board Administrator Certification.
Continued professional growth.
Equipment Used:School Management Software – Familiarity with platforms for scheduling, attendance, and student records.
Data-Driven Decision Making – Ability to analyze school performance metrics and trends.
Communication and Collaboration Platforms – Proficiency with staff and parent communication tools.
Budget and Resource Management Tools – Understanding of finance and procurement systems.
Cybersecurity Awareness – Ensuring data protection and compliance with privacy policies.
Faculty and Professional Development Technology – Experience with online training platforms and certification tracking.
Crisis Management Systems – Familiarity with emergency alert and notification tools.
8. Technology Planning and Implementation – Ability to oversee school-wide tech initiatives.
9. Student Information Systems (SIS) Administration – Managing records and student data securely.
Physical Demands:
Strength and stamina to be able to remain in a seated position for up to 90 minutes at a time throughout the work day with a minimum of fatigue or discomfort.
Visual acuity and stamina to work at a computer for at least part of each day with a minimum of fatigue or discomfort.
Strength and stamina to be able to remain in a standing position for up to 90 minutes at a time throughout the work day with a minimum of fatigue or discomfort.
Strength to lift objects that weigh at least 50 pounds and move them more than 50 feet.
Environmental Demands:
Be able to spend most of the time inside an educational setting with some work outside in hot/cold weather and occasional exposure to weather extremes.
Be able to tolerate noise up to 90 decibels.
Be able to work after dark while assisting with school or District sponsored-events.
