  •   Nature and Scope of Job:
    The assistant principal is responsible for all aspects of the High School environment as directed by the principal.  Areas of focus include: Instructional leadership curriculum support;  evaluation and supervision of staff; staff development; creating and maintaining a safe and orderly environment for students and staff; help create and support a school vision; serve as an active member of IEP and 504 teams in the LEA capacity; build positive relationships with students, staff and families. Even more specifically, the Assistant Principal must have a strong philosophy which supports a teaming approach to teaching and learning.  The Assistant Principal must have a working knowledge of, and possess a major strength in Curriculum Development.  Strategic Planning, problem-solving, and collaborative skills/methodologies are important considerations.
     
    Job Functions include, but are not limited to:
     
    Essential functions:
    The Assistant Principal will:
    1. Work with the principal in the supervision and evaluation of all staff (certified and classified).
    2. Provide instruction for teachers on curriculum delivery and research based instructional and behavior strategies to increase student achievement and promote a positive climate and culture.
    3. Assist the principal in the development of curricular articulation from grade level to grade level and from subject area.
    4. Be responsible for student discipline within the guidelines of district policy and school procedure.
    5. Supervise the maintenance of the building and grounds.
    6. Help create an atmosphere of high expectations for all student learning.
    7. Assist in the development of and participation on committees selected to interview and hire new staff.
    8. Attend and supervise school events.
    9. Communicate effectively with staff and the community.
    10. Attend and supervise school sponsored activities.
    11. Assist in the supervision and coordination of safety drills.
    12. Provide supervision for substitute teachers within the building.
    13. Attend all District meetings as assigned.
    14. Assume responsibility for duties as assigned
    15. Follow all District policies and conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times.
     
    Other Responsibilities:
     
    1.  Will maintain a visible profile for students and staff.
    2.  Assist with hall and lunchroom supervision on a daily basis.
    3.  Work as a liaison for students, parents and staff.
    4.  Be responsible for assigned departments.
    5.  Continue professional growth

    Ability to learn or possess grant writing experience.
     
    Education, License, Certification or Formal Training:
    Possess a Master’s Degree and be able to obtain or already possess Wyoming administrative certification in an appropriate time frame. Must continually pursue professional growth.

    Physical Demands:
    Strength and stamina to be able to remain in a seated position for up to 90 minutes at a time throughout the work day with a minimum of fatigue or discomfort.
    Visual acuity and stamina to work at a computer for at least part of each day with a minimum of fatigue or discomfort.
    Strength and stamina to be able to remain in a standing position for up to 90 minutes at a time throughout the work day with a minimum of fatigue or discomfort.
    Strength to lift objects that weigh at least 50 pounds and move them more than 50 feet.
     
    Environmental Demands:
    Be able to spend most of the time inside an educational setting with some work outside in hot/cold weather and occasional exposure to weather extremes.
    Be able to tolerate noise up to 90 decibels.
    Be able to work after dark while assisting with school or District sponsored events.
    Be able to work in a non-air-conditioned building.
