    JOB TITLE: College Tutor (Consultants)

    REPORTS TO: Building Administrator/Writing Centering Center Supervisor
     
    GENERAL SUMMARY:
    Provide Writing Centering tutoring support to Saginaw United High School students in the new Writing Centering center.
     
    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
    • Conduct both in-person and online tutoring sessions with students from a variety of backgrounds and disciplines to develop students’ academic reading and Writing Centering skills for a broad range of academic activities (e.g., assigned papers, creative works, lab reports, case studies, research papers, scholarship essays, visual presentations, blogs, textbook chapters, peer-reviewed articles)
    • Provide supportive oral and/or Writing Center feedback using MS Word comments feature (for electronic paper submissions) to students seeking to revise rough drafts
    • Meet the students where they are in their Writing Centering processes and share relevant composing strategies (e.g., idea generation techniques, thesis and paragraph development, source integration, self-editing skills. and various citation styles)
    • Participate effectively in orientation, training, and monthly staff meetings
    • Conduct outreach activities and presentations to familiarize faculty and students with the services offered in the WRITING CENTER 
    • Work with students in a manner that encourages confidence in the student Writing Center
    • Maintain orderliness and operation of the Center: on time with opening and closing procedures, checking students into database and filing reports, answering phone, greeting clients, filling out consulting forms neatly and clearly, checking and maintaining supplies, filing, administrative tasks
    • Maintain accurate and detailed records of consultations and maintain FERPA confidentiality
    • Other duties as assigned to support the WRITING CENTER and student learning, including but not limited to:  
      • Engaging in professional development activities
      • Creating new WRITING CENTER materials, including social media posts 
      • Contributing to WRITING CENTER marketing 
      • Completing eLearning assignments about Writing Centering center research and practice 
      • Participating in training new WRITING CENTER Consultants  
      • Assisting in WRITING CENTER classroom workshops 
    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
    • Associate degree or bachelor’s degree (preferably in English or Composition or in a Writing Centering-intensive discipline with training in Writing Centering center pedagogy)
    • Minimum of one-year experience in teaching or tutoring college-level academic reading and Writing Centering
    • Demonstration of significant Writing Centering ability confirmed by two submitted sample papers and interview assessment
    • Trustworthy, reliable, and detail-oriented; enthusiastic, energetic, and friendly
    • Demonstrated knowledge of English language rhetoric, grammar, and usage
    • Familiarity with a variety of genres of Writing Centering and their conventions
    • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in both Writing and oral form
    • Ability to establish rapport with learners and colleagues
    • Ability to work independently and efficiently, with minimal supervision, and take initiative in fulfilling responsibilities; self-motivated
    • Competency with basic computer technology and MS Word functions
     
     
    COMPENSATION:
     $20.00 PER HOUR 3 HOURS PER DAY; 13 WEEKS
