RESPONSIBLE TO: Executive Director of Special Education and the Director of Special Education Administration and Compliance 
 
NUMBER OF OPENINGS: One (1) full-time position; 2024-2025 school year, Saginaw Public Schools District.
 
GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION:  The School Psychologist functions as part of the various evaluation team to determine root causes of students who show difficulties with learning and or behavior.  They participate with other school staff on various student assistant team meetings.  They are a lead person in efforts relative to Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS).  In addition to the above, they evaluate individual students using various psychological instruments and assist in developing sound educational plans.  
 
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Shall evaluate individual student abilities and achievement through various psychological instruments, upon referral from the Supervisor or Director.
2. Shall diagnose, where possible, interferences to learning.
3. Shall reevaluate students periodically in accordance with state and federal guidelines.
4. Shall participate in Individual Education Plan Team Meetings (IEP's).
5. Shall write reports on the results of evaluations and propose eligibility for Special Education recommendations.
6. Shall prepare and maintain accurate statistical data relative to job responsibilities and student testing information.
7. Shall perform duties assigned by the Director of Special Education as deemed necessary and appropriate which are in accordance with contractual rules and legal guidelines.
8. Shall demonstrate effective, customer focused, and interpersonal skills with other school-based persons, parents, and agencies.
9. Shall demonstrate effective time management skills.
10. Shall utilize basic keyboarding, computer skills in the preparation of reports and records.
11. Shall participate in additional training to improve job skills.
12. Shall keep all students, parent, and staff information confidential.
13. When requested, shall maintain a service schedule and submit it to the administration. 
14. Other duties as requested by Supervisor of Special Education and/or Director of Special Education.

1. Master’s degree.
2. School Psychologist Certificate – MDE, preliminary or full.
3. The requirements as outlined under R340.1799e of the Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education Supplemented with IDEA Regulations.

6. Ability to work successfully with students, parents, staff, community and advocacy groups.

RESPONSIBLE TO:  Executive Director of Special Education and/or Supervisor of Special Education.
 
SUMMARY OF POSITION:  The School Social Worker provides direct and/or indirect social work services to students with IEPs (meets eligibility for special education programs/services).  Direct service, as identified in the IEP, will vary in form, length, intensity, and methodology depending upon the students’ identified needs.  Indirect service will consist of serving as a liaison, consultant, and advocate on behalf of the student, family, and/or school.  The School Social Worker may assist teachers, principals, counselors, and parents in understanding and treating the social and emotional behavior of students in special education or those suspected of having a disability.  School Social Workers are a crucial member of the behavior intervention planning team.
 
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
Assessment/Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team Responsibilities
1. The School Social Worker participates with the Multidisciplinary Evaluation of students suspected of having a disability as required by law or as identified in the Evaluation Review process.
2. Assist with the coordination of referrals, and pre-referral consultations.
3. Explain parental rights as part of the referral process.
4. Review the contents of the Parent Handbook with parents/guardians.
5. Secure parental permission (consent) to test students suspected of being a student with a disability.
6. Gather developmental data and write a social history with parental input.
7. Observe students suspected of being emotionally impaired in various settings.
8. Assist with the initial and re-evaluation process as specified in rule.
9. Assist in completion of Functional Behavioral Assessments as per operational procedure.
10. Assist in the development of Behavioral Intervention Plans.
 
Counseling
1. Help special education students who are experiencing adjustment problems, by providing direct therapy as written in the IEP or by referring them to a community agency.
2. Attend IEP Team meetings as necessary for special education students needing and/or receiving services.
3. Utilize resources found in the school and community to meet the needs of special education students.
4. Work with parents who need assistance in understanding child growth and child management techniques.
5. Share with the school staff knowledge of child growth and development and principles of human behavior as they affect the child in the school setting.
6. Help classroom teachers, administrators, counselors, and parents understand and plan for the social-emotional problems that special education students experience.
7. Assist in conducting in-service training programs for parents, teachers, and/or administrators on request.
8. Serve as a liaison to community agencies.
9. Provide crisis intervention on behalf of special education students.
 
Reports and Records
1. Complete necessary and appropriate reports.
2. Write goals and instructional objectives for all students receiving direct service.
3. Complete and/or assist in the completion of student progress reports.
4. Maintain appropriate and orderly student files.
 
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
1. Carry out Primary Caseload Provider responsibilities for students where the SSW is identified as the only service provider.
2. To use proper phone etiquette at all times.
3. Other duties as requested by Director.
4. Maintain professional competency by attending staff meetings, conferences, workshops, and participating in professional organizations.
5. Willingness to learn and utilize basic keyboarding computer skills.
6. Willingness to receive additional training to improve job skills.
7. Participate in the District Planning Process and Work Teams.
 
MINIMAL QUALIFICATIONS:
 
1. Meet the State Special Education requirements to be a School Social Worker as listed in Rule 340.1012.
2. Demonstrate oral and written communication skills.
3. Demonstrate conflict resolution skills.
4. Demonstrate skills to work effectively with staff, school administrators, and outside agencies in the delivery of special education services.
5. Demonstrate the ability to work successfully with students, parents, staff, community, and advocacy groups.
6. Demonstrate the ability to function in a total organizational context.
7. Must have a valid driver’s license and acceptable transportation.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

GENERAL SUMMARY:  Under the direction of the administrator and the
established policies and procedures, evaluates children referred as potentially eligible for special education services and programs.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
1.  Approval was obtained from the Michigan Department of Education as a teacher consultant with a valid teaching certificate and special education endorsement.
2. Master’s Degree in education or a field of study related to special education and 3 to 5 years of successful teaching experience, not less than two years of teaching in a special education classroom.
 
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
1. Serves as a member of the multidisciplinary evaluation team and assists in the comprehensive assessment of students suspected of having a disability as outlined in the Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education.
2. Understands assessment methods including but not limited to progress monitoring, curriculum-based measurement, and formative assessment. This may include participation in problem-solving teams and requires knowledge of data collection and tiered systems of interventions.  
3. Supports staff in identifying and using researched-based instructional practices. 
4. Writes, or assists in writing, the Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team reports.
5. Represents the Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team at the Individualized Educational Planning Committee and makes recommendations concerning eligibility for special education programs and services.
6. Coordinate assessment activities for the multidisciplinary evaluation team.
7. Consults with staff and parents regarding behavioral and academic intervention plans.       
8. Serves as a member of the Individual Educational Planning Team to assist in the determination of eligibility, placement, and development of the Individualized Educational Plan.
9. Perform individual evaluation of children which may include achievement tests and observation.
10. Upon request, provides professional learning and consultative services to local educational staff.
11. Assumes such other duties as may be assigned
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES:
1. Knowledge and experience in consulting with regular and special education teachers.
2. Demonstrated effective organizational skills.
3. Knowledge and skills commonly used in consultation include the understanding and ability to help determine the special education eligibilities.
4. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form to multiple audiences.
5. Knowledge of the requirements of state and federal mandates that directly relate to the evaluation and identification of a student with a disability.
6. Strong analytical skills are required to correctly analyze, interpret and report quantitative and qualitative data.
7.  Demonstrated understanding of the logic and application of an MTSS/RtI model and the continuum of behavior and academic supports at all levels (universal/targeted/intensive).
8. Expertise in assessment including curriculum-based assessment measurement and diagnostic practices.
9.  Ability to collect, analyze and use data and research within a strategic planning and continuous improvement process and/or intervention planning.
