    CARROLLTON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
    MATH SPECIALIST 

     

    (grant-funded position)

     

    2025-2026 SCHOOL YEAR


    SUMMARY OF POSITION:  The Elementary Math Specialist will provide targeted Tier III math interventions to support students with significant skill gaps. In addition to direct intervention services, the Math Specialist will oversee the work of the math interventionist, ensuring alignment with research-based best practices and the district's Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS). The Math Specialist will collaborate with classroom teachers, intervention staff, and instructional leaders to analyze data, support intervention planning, and promote the effective implementation of the district’s adopted math curriculum to improve student achievement.

     

    REPORTS TO: Building Principal

     

    COMPENSATION: As per the CEA Master Agreement. Years of teaching experience will be considered.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS:                                                                          

     
    • Must have a valid K-5 teaching certificate from the state of Michigan.

    • Math Recovery training is preferred. 

    • Deep understanding of the State of Michigan's math standards, Essential Instructional Practices, and curriculum.

    • Understanding of how to use data to drive instruction.

    • Possession of excellent oral and written communication skills.

    • Must be able to work as part of a team.

    • Experience working with at-risk students and their parents is preferred.

    • Must have a positive attitude and strong work ethic.

    • Must have an in-depth understanding of elementary school students.

    • Ability to cooperate with teachers, students, and administration; work as part of a team.

    • Shall attend required workshops and in-services for additional training to improve job skills.

     

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

     
    • Ensures compliance with all Federal laws, requirements, and regulations

    • Maintain time and effort logs, semi-annual certifications, or other reporting requirements

    • Serve as an instructional leader in the building and support teachers with implementing the district-adopted curriculum, data analysis, and research-based interventions.

    • Work cooperatively with instructional leaders, teachers, students, and their families.

    • Facilitate PLC's focused on data, assessments, and the MTSS process.

    • Participate in additional professional learning outside of the district-provided professional development per the CEA contractual wages.

    • Serve on the Multi-Disciplinary Team and Math Leadership teams.

    • Stay rooted in practice by supporting students with interventions.

    • Plan and facilitate events that support family engagement, like the Family Math Night.

    • Be self-directed and self-motivated.

    • Be highly organized and able to multitask.

    • Keep all student and parent information confidential.

    • Keep a positive attitude in working with students, parents, other staff members, and community members.

    • Be able to lift and assist students when necessary.

    • High level of proficiency in Google Educational tools.

    • Must be proficient in using the Internet for research.

    • Shall be of good character with high moral and ethical values.

    • To endure a safe environment for students at all times.

    • To meet and greet visitors in a positive, helpful manner.
