POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is for the extended school year, with program running from June 1- June 28.
The Educator must be licensed in Special Education with an endorsement in Elementary Education. In addition, the District is also seeking someone who has a background with students who have intensive cognitive, behavioral and academic needs. This teacher will perform effective teaching methods to ensure student success and promote an exemplary educational program which fosters achievement for all students. Must be able to manage a team including related service providers and paraprofessionals. Develops and promotes good relations among community and school clientele. Must be trained (or willing to be trained) in Enrich IEP software and Crisis Prevention (CPI). Salary for this position will be $35 an hour. There will be some required training in April and May
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strong knowledge of content area, teaching methods, learning styles and educational research related to learners with all types of special needs.
Build strong relationships with students and families
Demonstrate an understanding of the scope and sequence of a special education curriculum.
Proficient in classroom management, communication, organization and planning skills including de-escalation strategies
Providing day to day supervision of paraprofessionals
Experience in developing and implementing individualized education programs (IEPs).
Knowledge of both formal and informal diagnostic assessments for students with a variety of learning difficulties.
Demonstrate knowledge in literacy and numeracy intervention programs.
Experience in administration and interpretation of standardized and informal special education assessments.
Demonstrate problem-solving skills through collaborative work with students, teachers, parents and administrators.
Participate collaboratively in teaching teams to design curriculum and assessments.
Ability to align curriculum and assessments with Colorado Content Standards.
Positively impact achievement and differentiate instruction based on the needs of the students by supporting programs designed to increase student achievement
Perform other duties as may be assigned by the building principal or Special Education Director in accordance with district policies.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The Special Education Teacher shall hold a valid Colorado license with approved endorsement as a teacher of the category of handicap being taught.
Bachelor’s degree or higher required from an accredited university or college.
Completed a state approved Teacher Preparation Program, participation in a Teacher in Resident Program or participation in an Alternative Teacher License program.
