Sheridan School District is seeking a 5th grade elementary teacher with a strong literacy background. The position will have candidates working in partnership with developing curriculum for 5th grade students with the 5th grade team, as well as evaluating assessment measures to determine areas of students’ needs. The candidate must be able to develop meaningful lessons which are closely aligned to the Colorado Academic Standards. In addition, the teacher will work with both the 5th grade team and the FLN Elementary staff in professional learning capacities. Candidates will utilize explicit instruction to create and develop lessons and understand how to use data to drive literacy instruction with students. The teacher in this position will be able to utilize a wide range of literacy strategies to support differentiated instruction for students.
Candidates should be familiar with developing curriculum and planning with the Colorado Content Standards for elementary aged students. Candidates should be familiar with the use of data in driving instruction and planning, with a familiarity of backwards planning. Qualified candidates will have experience and/or training with ELD students and have shown the ability to promote literacy growth with English Language Learners. In addition, candidates will have a strong understanding and background in literacy strategies and development for students. Candidates will show the ability to collaborate with peers in professional learning and data driven environments.
SALARY
Placement on Licensed Teacher salary schedule based upon highest degree earned, college credits earned after highest degree and previous teaching experience. Current Board approved Licensed Teacher salary schedule and Master Agreement are available for review on our district website at www.ssd2.org. Highest initial step placement on the Licensed Salary Schedule is Step 9.

Positions that qualify for benefits also qualify for leave which could include vacation and daily leave to be determined by the position and number of days assigned. Sheridan School District No. 2 is a public employer and participates in the Colorado Public Employees' Retirement Association (PERA). Eligible employees are required by statute to contribute 11% of salary on a pre-tax basis to PERA. The district contributes 21%.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR ALL TEACHING POSITIONS
- Must hold a Colorado Alternative, Provisional or Professional Teaching License with appropriate endorsement.
- Bachelor's degree or higher required from an accredited university or college.
- Completed a state approved Teacher Preparation Program or participation in an Alternative Teacher License program.
- Demonstrates subject matter competency by one of the following means:
- Passes the Elementary PLACE or PRAXIS exam in Colorado or in a CDE approved state
