POSITION SUMMARY:
Fort Logan Northgate is seeking a Middle School  Grade Language Arts Teacher who has experience working with second language learners and at-risk populations.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Teach and instruct 6th- 8th  grade students in reading and writing
• Implement lesson plans designed by classroom teacher as well as work in conjunction with Language Arts and grade level team to develop lesson plans and teaching outlines using explicit instruction, with a focus on higher order thinking and rigor
• Teach using various methodologies, including lectures, discussions, writing workshops, literacy circles, etc.
• Plan, develop, and utilize a variety of instructional materials and aids appropriate to the intellectual and instructional level of pupils from varied socio-economic and cultural backgrounds who possess a range of mental and emotional maturity
• Provide group and individual instruction to motivate pupils and effectively utilize the time available for instructional activities
• Prepare, administer, score, record and report the results of criterion referenced tests
• Administer, score, record and report the results of group standardized and quarterly benchmark tests in evaluating pupil growth and progress
• Communicate effectively with parents, colleagues and students regarding student growth goals and performance reports
• Perform curriculum and instructional development activities

QUALIFICATIONS FOR ALL LICENSED POSITIONS:

Required
• Teachers must hold a valid Colorado License.
Preferred
• Hold an Elementary Education or English Language Arts endorsement and authorization level in the subject area appropriate for assignment.
• Pass an approved content exam in subject area.
• Hold 36 semester hours in assigned subject area.

SALARY:
Placement on Licensed Teacher salary schedule based upon highest degree earned, college credits earned after highest degree and previous teaching experience.  Current Board approved Licensed Teacher salary schedule, placement policy and Master Agreement are available for review on our district website at www.ssd2.org.  Highest initial step placement on the Licensed Salary Schedule is Step 9.

The annual salary for this position will be determined by number of hours scheduled to work each day and number of days scheduled to work each year.  The computed annual salary will be spread out in equal payments over 12 months. Sheridan School District employees are paid once a month on the 1st working day of the month that is not a weekend day or holiday.

BENEFITS:
Employees who are scheduled to work 30 or more hours per week are eligible to obtain district benefits which include medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance and supplemental benefits.  Positions that qualify for benefits also qualify for leave which could include vacation and daily leave to be determined by the position and number of days assigned. Sheridan School District No. 2 is a public employer and participates in the Colorado Public Employees’ Retirement Association (PERA). All employees are required by state statute to contribute 11% of salary on a pre-tax basis to PERA.   The District contributes 21% in addition to employee contribution.

Position Summary
This position is for the 2024-2025 school year. The Educator must be licensed in Special Education with an endorsement in Elementary or Secondary Education. In addition, the District is also seeking someone who has a background or training in teaching co-teaching. Must be trained (or willing to be trained) in Enrich IEP software.
 
Responsibilities
1. Provide a continuum of services with students with disabilities, including instruction in the general classroom and pull-out specialized instruction in the special education classroom.
2. Provide materials and teaching techniques that are research-based and that will address the needs of students with disabilities.
3. Assist the administration at their request in any matter that may command priority and bring to their attention issues of concern regarding special education services and programs to increase efficiency and effectiveness.
4. Maintain the confidentiality of school district record files, conversations and meetings that have not become a part of the public record.
5. Communicate with the immediate supervisor in a direct and open fashion to facilitate the finding of solutions to school district and interpersonal problems and misunderstandings.
6. Provide a responsible diagnostic and prescriptive program for children in alignment with special education law and MTSS.
7. Assess and evaluate students who are referred for possible special education services in order to determine eligibility and pinpoint strengths and weaknesses in learning styles and academic achievement.
8. Work in an instructional capacity individually or in small group with students assigned to a special education program.  Collaborate with staff and parents.
9. Consult with parents and assist them in understanding their child’s learning needs.
10.  Provide consultation services to the classroom teacher and other related service team members in areas of student need.
11. Act as a team member, attending meetings and develop, with a team, IEPs designed to meet the needs of students with disabilities.
12.  Act as an advocate in an advisory capacity for meeting the needs of children with educational disabilities in the community and at parent group meetings.
13. Provide in-service and workshops for teachers and staff during the school year.
14. Evaluate the progress of students and documenting progress monitoring.
15. Complete all necessary forms and records as required by Sheridan School District and the Colorado Department of Education.
16. Participate in workshops for professional growth.
17. Perform other duties as may be assigned by the building principal or Special Education Director in accordance with district policies.
 
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
1.  The Special Education Teacher shall hold a valid Colorado license with approved endorsement.
2. Bachelor’s degree or higher required from an accredited university or college.
3. Completed a state approved Teacher Preparation Program, participation in a Teacher in Resident Program or participation in an Alternative Teacher License program.
4. Demonstrates competency by one of the following means:
   • Pass the Praxis test.
