    About O’Dea High School
    O’Dea High School is a Seattle Archdiocesan Catholic school whose mission is to educate young men and prepare them to be men of character, faith, and service.     Position:
    Band/Choir/Intro to Music Teacher – Available April 1, 2025
    This is a unique position where the teacher teaches one section of band during zero period, before school and one section of choir during the school day. There are also 3 sections of 9th grade Intro to Music course that relies heavily on project-based learning to teach students about the basics of music theory and to gain a greater appreciation for music. There are many tools used in this program but primarily, students create music using Abletone online. All students come to school with a Surface computer and access to the Adobe Suite.
    This role has also previously included duties around moderating an eSports club and directing a drama production. All of this can be determined based on the applicant’s skillset and interests. We are excited to grow the program and find new ways to build on the current success.

    Essential Functions
    1. Fosters an educational environment conducive to the learning and maturation process of assigned students; plans an instructional program designed to meet individual student needs and those of whole groups which may include at risk or students with learning differences; prepares lesson plans, designs and analyzes performance opportunities, provides structure and space for students to be creative and grow within the program
    2. Works to build on our current music programs by encouraging new students to join and finding engaging ways to increase student interest in our music programs.
    3. Showcases the arts by engaging families and community in student performances throughout the year. This also includes performance at football and basketball games.
    4. Uses necessary and appropriate instructional methods and materials, which are suited to the well-being of the student and to the nature of the learning activities, program, and/or curriculum involved
    5. Establishes and implements, in a positive and supportive manner, classroom policies and procedures governing student behavior and conduct; provides guidance, counseling, and discipline to encourage students to meet standards of achievement and conduct.
    6. Confers with students, parents or guardians, and other staff, maintaining an open positive relationship as appropriate to provide guidance and evaluation, and to encourage student achievement
    7. Establish classroom goals and objectives, evaluates and records student progress.
    8. Collects and interprets a variety of data, provides reports for administrative purposes
    9. Attends or participates in all required staff meetings and other activities deemed necessary by school administrators, in order to accomplish the objectives of the position, for professional achievement, and as part of a process of continual improvement and growth. 
    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
    Knowledge of: subject areas, effective behavior management techniques; effective instructional techniques, rules and procedures for student safety.
    Skill in: proficiency in reading, writing, and oral communications; effective communication with parents or guardians in a diverse community; designing and implementing lesson plans for students having a wide range of achievement; using a variety of instructional strategies to engage student learning through innovative, relevant learning experiences
    Ability to: interact with students in a positive and confident manner; be fair and consistent when working with a culturally, racially, and economically diverse student population; adapt to change and remain flexible; organize activities; manage student behavior; use good judgement to maintain a safe learning environment; establish and maintain positive working relationships with students, parents or guardians, staff, and administrators to provide student-centered learning; to teach a broad range of achievement levels; to integrate technology into student learning.
     
    Salary: Any offered salary is determined based on internal equity, internal salary ranges, market data, applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, degrees, and certifications. This is a full-time teaching position with a salary range of $63,000 - $100,000 annually.

    While we are a Catholic school, O’Dea welcomes people of all faiths and creeds. In addition, we are always looking for faculty and staff experienced in facilitating co-curricular activities and coaching sports.
     
    Essential Functions/Responsibilities: Describe the essential responsibilities and activities of the position below indicating the approximate percent of time spent performing each activity. The percentage should total 100%. Please include only responsibilities that account for 10% or more of your time and group all others into one category if necessary.
     
    1. (80% time) – Classroom Instruction – Designing, implementing, assessing and refining instruction to meet the needs of all students, with a clear and consistent lens on Universal Design for Learning and reducing barriers for all students. This includes but is not limited to: deliver information in an engaging fashion, collaborate with department faculty to align lessons vertically, managing online platforms for students and parents to view grades, assignments and resources, maintaining accurate records for grades and attendance, facilitating and encouraging student discourse.
     
    1. (5% of time) – Participation in Campus and Community Events – This includes participation in outside activities such as coaching, attending meetings with families, attendance at sporting events, and attendance at open house and family conferences.
     
    1.  (10% of time) – Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) – Weekly faculty meetings as well as additional department and grade level meetings to coordinate curriculum and pedagogy to improve outcomes for students.
     
    1.  (5% of time) – Supervision Duties – All faculty members are part of a rotating supervision schedule during lunchtime activities. Other supervision outside of classroom time includes but is not limited to mass, field trips, assemblies, and special activity days.
     

      
    Minimum Qualifications 
    Bachelor’s degree in music or a related subject
    Basic technology skills & experience with Microsoft suite
    Work Experience in the music field
