  •   Instructional Paraeducator – Substitute Coverage
    Position Purpose: Provide substitute coverage when teachers are absent; provide hall duty support

    Essential Job Functions:
    • Provides a stimulating teaching-learning environment, making use of a variety of instructional tools and teaching aids.
    • Reviews with the principal, or designee; all plans and schedules to be followed during the teaching day.
     
    • Attends all meetings expected to be attended by Paraprofessionals
    • Maintains high expectations for student conduct and enforce expectations at all school functions.
    • Maintains the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which he/she is assigned.
    • Utilizes approved instructional material and appropriate equipment or technology for educational purposes.
    • Consults with the building principal or designee before initiating any teaching or other procedures not specified in the lesson plan.
    • Maintains appropriate supervision of students at all times.
    • Proctor a classroom and assist students with virtual instruction.
    • Follows all applicable safety rules, procedures and regulations governing the proper manner of assistance for all students, including those with disabilities or other special needs.
    • Performs other duties and tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as assigned.

    • Maintain learner/classroom confidentially in school, at home, and in the community
    • Monitor student progress
    • Provide academic assistance to small groups, or individual learners
    • Discipline learners in a consistent, firm, positive manner at a feeling level within the structure
    • Demonstrate an encouraging attitude
    • Treat learners, staff and parents with respect and dignity
    • Demonstrate an initiative to try new and unique ways of performing assigned tasks and new projects
    • Be a role model by being courteous, cooperative, respectful, open, neat, prompt, and encouraging
    • Provide a support system that allows learners to develop independence
    • Assist the teacher in the development of appropriate social and emotional growth of their learners continually seeking out resources to develop competencies in providing services to the learners and the school community
    • Participate in staff meetings as requested
    • Attend in-service training as assigned
    • Strive to continually improve skills
    • Perform any other related duties as assigned.

    High School diploma or equivalent AND
    -Successful completion of college level coursework - 60 Credit Hours
    OR passing of examination ParaPro Assessment

                Note:   All temporary positions will end on June 30th.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
    Paraeducator Certification
     
    NOTE:  This position is for coverage and therefore the successful candidates are not eligible for the stiped as outlined in Article 14.5.
     
     
    APPLICATION PROCEDURE:  Interested and qualified candidates should complete an online application.
     
    NOTE:  Currently employed staff members interested and certified/licensed in this position will be given first consideration and should remit a staff transfer request on the Seaford School District website www.seafordbluejays.org no later than the application closing date referenced above.
     
    SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:  All new state employees will be required to participate in the State of Delaware's Direct Deposit system.  With direct deposit, wage and salary payments are deposited in the employee's bank account via electronic funds transfer.
     
    All final candidates for employment must have a satisfactory criminal background check before being placed on contract/payroll as per State of Delaware regulations. Candidates must call the Delaware State Police at (800) 464-4357 to make an appointment.  The cost of the criminal background check is $65 (expense borne by the prospective employee).  Final candidates must also receive a satisfactory child protection registry check - $14.
    Final candidates must also produce documentation of Mantoux skin test results for entrance to school system.
     
    The State of Delaware has initiated a lag pay policy which means that new employees will receive the first paycheck at the end of the second pay period of work.
