    JOB TITLE:                  EARLY ON SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER – (2 open positions)
                                         TOTE PROGRAM
     
    JOB SUMMARY:           Working in homes and developmental playroom settings with young children with special needs (0-3 years of age), professionals, paraprofessionals, families, and community agencies.  Programming for young children with special needs and working in a "team” situation.  Preference will be given to the candidate who has experience in this job scope and has also worked with young children with special needs and their families.
     
    MINIMAL QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Valid Michigan teaching certificate ZA and ZS endorsement required; an additional Bachelor’s degree.
    • Michigan teaching certificate with an endorsement in at least one area of special education.
    • Must be endorsed in Early Childhood and Special Education
    • Valid Michigan driver’s license.
    • Reliable transportation to perform home visits.
     MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (May include but not be limited to):
    • Self-direction and ability to work effectively in a variety of settings.
    • Special sensitivity to the need for and ability to provide for early education for the families of children with special needs.
    • Demonstrate confidentiality, tact, and similar qualities necessary in meeting and dealing effectively with others, not only within the confines of the program but also with parents and community people.
    • Develop home programs for children with special needs (0-3 years of age) in all areas of development.
    • Ability to make home visits in order to assist families in working effectively with their children with special needs.
    • Direct small group opportunities for children with special needs (0-3 years of age) and families in mini-workshops, developmental playroom, and parent groups.
    • Support families in seeking and utilizing community resources for their children.
    • Assist in on-going evaluation of the effectiveness of programming.
    • Assess infants and children with special needs, interpret results, and develop appropriate evaluation reports.
    • Develop and coordinate parent group activities.
    • Ability to adapt to a variety of curriculum and programs.
    • Ability to be flexible in difficult and unique situations.
    • Ability to complete IEP, IFSP, and other reporting requirements in an accurate and timely manner.
    • Ability to use technology for documentation and preparation of professional materials and to assist students.
