POSITION TITLE: School Security Officer/School Safety Professional
SALARY: $18.00 per hour

 POSITION GOAL(S):
The primary purpose of this position is to ensure the safety, security, and welfare of all students, faculty, staff, and visitors on the campus of the
Harper Woods School District while under the direction and supervision of the Harper Woods School District Superintendent or Designee. This position will work to foster positive relationships with students and the learning community while also working in tandem with existing administrative practices and building procedures to maintain order, prevent crime, and assist the building administration with the operations of the school on school property or at school-sponsored events when necessary and appropriate.
JOB DUTIES / ACCOUNTABILITIES:
 
1. Ensures the security, safety, and well-being of all personnel, visitors and the premises.
2. Patrols and monitors assigned areas of the school buildings, grounds and parking lots to deter, detect, report and stop violations of the law, school board policies, district policies, and student code of conduct.
3. Secures all district buildings, grounds, property, and personnel by controlling entry and screening all visitors per district policy.
4. Detects, investigates, and reports unauthorized or suspicious persons, vehicles and activities.
5. Monitors surveillance and security panel alarm systems, communicating necessary information to prompt required investigation and facilitating the appropriate emergency response.
6. Notifies central office designee(s), administrative staff, police, fire department, or other appropriate authorities of security or emergency situations.
7. Assists administrators and staff in crisis and emergency situations.
8. Assists with planning, coordinating and working special events and projects.
9. Assists the building Administration with the operations of the school.
10. Assist District Coordinator in logistics, management, and safety for sanctioned school/district events.
11. Assists with investigations as needed and assigned (for example, student residency).
12. Works closely with law enforcement agencies to conduct and participate in any and all training as determined appropriate.
13. Makes rapid and appropriate decisions during stressful situations.
14. Responds to incoming security calls according to established procedures.
15. Responds to critical incidents and investigates to determine the cause then takes appropriate action.
16. Assists injured persons and determines appropriate action in a timely manner including contacting emergency medical personnel when necessary.
17. Regularly patrols school perimeter and facilities, including security checks of school sites including the school buildings, ensuring that access is limited to approved and specified points of entry, as well as school grounds, athletic facilities, and parking areas.

Speech Pathologist
 
Minimum Qualifications
 
• A Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited institution;
• A current Certificate of Clinical Competence issued by the American Speech/Language/Hearing Association (ASHA).
• A valid State of Michigan Speech-Language Pathologist license issued by the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, Bureau of Health Care Services.
• CFY with supervision leading to CCC-SLP will be considered
• Teacher of the Speech/Language Impaired must provide evidence of a current Michigan Teaching Certificate with an endorsement in Speech/Language Pathology (SB), or a Michigan Temporary Teaching Authorization with an endorsement in Speech/Language Pathology (SB).
• Expertise and experience working in an urban public school district is a plus. Previous work experience desired but not required.
Essential Functions
1. Evaluate students to determine eligibility for special education. Select and implement appropriate evaluation procedures (including classroom observation, case history information, standardized tests, and informal tests) as determined by student's abilities.
2. Interpret evaluation findings accurately to parents and school staff.
3. Implement Individual Educational Plans (IEPs). Develop and modify SMART therapy goals and objectives including connections to Common Core State Standards, materials and activities to meet the needs, interests and abilities of students. Evaluate student progress; modify goals and objectives as needed.
4. Create and maintain an environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the abilities of the students.
5. Counsel parents, teachers and students concerning the nature/effect/alleviation/elimination of communication disorders.
6. Collaborate with parents, school staff and other professionals and agencies to develop/implement behavior management and other intervention strategies. Participate on Resource Coordinating Teams (RCTs) and contribute to Response to Intervention (RtI) efforts.
7. Establish and maintain good working relationships with staff, students, and parents. Participate in school and district in-service training programs. Plan and present workshops and in-service training programs.
8. Demonstrate adequate knowledge of special education rules and regulations and maintain compliance.
9. Initiate, participate in and follow through on MET/IEP procedures as appropriate.
10. Attend school staff meetings and discipline-specific staff meetings.
11. Maintain accurate, compete and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation; submit same at designated times. Records include, but are not limited to, MET/IEP packets, MISTAR Service Tracker Daily and Monthly Notes, student progress reports, statistical reports, compliance monitoring reports, Medicaid reports.
12. Perform other duties as assigned by the building administrator.

Position Summary: 

Minimum Qualifications: 
• Must possess 60 credit hours or higher from an accredited college/university 
Essential Functions: 
• Evaluate and assess students’ progress on a periodic basis.
• Monitor individual student’s progress.
• Reports to the building Principal or designee at the appointed time per the local school.
• Reviews with the Principal, Administrator or designee, all plans, schedules and complies with the Student Code of Conduct guidelines during the instructional day. 
• Maintains, as fully as possible, the established routines and procedures for the school and classroom to which he/she is assigned. 
• Teaches the lesson outlined and described and prepared by the absent teacher, Principal or designee. Consults with the building Principal, Administrator or designee before initiating any teaching or other procedures. 
• Assumes responsibility for overseeing pupil behavior in class, maintains classroom management and control in class, as well as during lunch and recess periods.
• Reports, in writing on the form(s) provided by the school secretary, on the day’s activities at the end of each teaching day.
