POSITION: Varsity Head Football Coach
LOCATION: Advanced Technology Academy
REPORTS TO: Athletic Director
EFFECTIVE: Fall 2025-2026 School Year
COMPENSATION: Based on experience
DESCRIPTION: The Head Varsity Football Coach is responsible for providing leadership and direction to the football programs of the Advanced Technology Academy, both at the High School and Middle School. Additionally, the Head Coach will establish goals to encourage self-discipline and self-confidence in all participants while ensuring the athletes value leadership, sportsmanship and a sense of fair play while representing our school and community. The Head Coach will model appropriate behavior, possess strong moral character and a demonstrated history of excellence as a leader.
QUALIFICATIONS: The person selected for this position will offer the best combination of training, experience, and attributes in accordance with the following:
? Thorough knowledge and understanding of football strategies, techniques and player development
? Experience playing and/or coaching at the high school or collegiate level
? Ability to motivate, mentor and manage student-athletes
? Understanding of Michigan High School Athletic Association rules and regulations of high school football
? Possess a high level of integrity, professionalism and commitment to the academic and athletic success of student-athletes
? Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with parents, staff, and the community
? Must have a time schedule compatible with that of the high school
? Current CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
? Bachelor’s degree and valid Michigan Teaching Certificate preferred
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned
? Develop and implement a comprehensive football program that aligns with the District’s mission and values
? Lead all practices, games and team-related activities
? Provide mentorship, guidance and skill development for athletes at all levels
? Foster a positive team environment focused on discipline, hard work and personal growth
? Work closely with the Athletic Director, assistant coaches, school administration and parents to ensure smooth operation of the football program
? Prepare game plans, analyze opponent strategies and make in-game decisions that support team success
? Plan, schedule and facilitate a regular season practice program, as well as an off-season strength, speed and conditioning program in conjunction with the school athletic trainer
? Recommend purchase of equipment, supplies, uniforms, etc. needed for the program
? Inventory, distribute, collect and maintain the District’s athletic equipment during the season
? Oversee the safety conditions of the facility while following all safety protocols of MHSAA
? Complies with MHSAA policies and department/District policies
? Monitor grades of student-athletes in the football program and check academic eligibility
? Communicates with athletic director concerning injuries and student playing status
? Maintains consistent communication with Athletic Director
? Develop positive self-image with athletes
? Attends clinics/workshops related to sport, CAP 1 or CAP 2 required
? Utilize sound teaching methods to develop skills/techniques
? Demonstrate positive team sportsmanship toward opponents and officials
? Administrative and other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director
