JOB TITLE: Transportation Master Technician

Primary Purpose:
Help provide a safe and reliable vehicle for the transport of students by inspecting, analyzing and repairing P.I.S.D. gasoline and diesel powered vehicles and equipment.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- High School diploma or GED, some college or technical school preferred
- Current ASE/TASBT Certification preferred
- Valid Texas Commercial Drivers License-Class A with P ans S endorsements
- Capable of obtaining and maintaining state school bus driver's certification
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Must be cooperative ans show initiative towards improving skills
- Able to understand and execute verbal and written orders
- Capable of maintaining and repairing district fleet with limited supervision
- Ability to lift heavy equipment and parts
- Must have basic hand and air tools knowledge
- Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical/technical problems on various fleet vehicles
- Ability to operate equipment and tools in vehicle repair
Experience:
At least ten years of mechanical experience or classroom training in automotive
At least two to four years technical training preferred
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Perform repairs and overhauls on vehicle systems such as fuel, cooling, lubrication, brakes, steering/suspension, drive line, electrical, hydraulic and special needs vehicle equipment within the qualification level obtained. Notify the shop supervisor when repairs are completed and another job assignment is required. Immediately request the assistance of the shop supervisor or fleet manager when needed repairs are beyond current qualification level.
- Perform gas and diesel computer engine diagnostics and service vehicles according to established preventive maintenance programs
- Take all necessary steps and opportunities to improve skills as a mechanic. Must be up to date on new computer diagnostic equipment and emission standards. Be knowledgeable of parts and supplies. Must have basic knowledge of computers and software programs used in
trouble shooting and repairs of engine control systems - Comply with all shop rules and safety measures
- Must maintain a clean and orderly work area
- Maintain security of all buildings, vehicles and equipment within Transportation Department
- Help maintain safety standards in compliance with state, federal and insurance regulations
- Act as substitute bus driver as needed
- Responsible for keeping CDL and Bus Driver Certification up to date
- Read and understand shop manuals, electrical schematics and other technical data as may be necessary to complete vehicle repairs
- Perform other duties as assigned by the shop foreman ans shop supervisor
- Assist mechanics with any repair with which they are not familiar, ensuring proper quality and prevention of "come back" repairs
- Evaluate and perform all necessary vehicle repairs as assigned
- Analyze engine performance and perform tune-ups as needed
- Assist in implementing shop rules and regulations
- Assume supervisor's duties if necessary
- Test drive on random basis vehicles that have had preventive maintenance inspections, tune ups and brake work to ensure that all repairs are of the highest quality
- Utilize time wisely for effective management of job responsibilities
- Maintain punctuality in daily work times, appointments and meetings
- Meet task completion deadliness established by to shop supervisor
- Maintain friendly customer-service-driven interactions with all stakeholders, students, teachers, administrators and co-workers
- Demonstrate integrity and ethics
- Work cooperatively with co-workers and supervisors to ensure that the goals of the schools/departments are met
- Maintaing a positive and professional tone in all communications (i.e. email, written and verbal)
- Other duties as assigned by the shop foreman and shop supervisor
