LOCATION OF POSITION: Monroe One BOCES – 41 O'Connor Road, Fairport, NY 14450; Rochester City School District

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: Per Diem Substitute 

STARTING DATE: As Need Presents

SALARY RANGE: $15.75 per hour


DUTIES:
 1. Assist with maintaining and completing adequate, legible reports, health records and forms.
 2. Record and file health information and records accurately.
 3. Assist with screening students for: scoliosis, vision, etc.
 4. Aid with generating, completing, and disseminating forms.
 5. Utilize computerized Health Record for recording information.
 6. Administer first aid, as needed using School Health Services medical policies.
 7. Screen students for illnesses, e.g., interview students, take temperatures, and inspect skin.
 8. Communicate appropriately with Nurse, school personnel and parents.
 9. Provide individual personal care for 1:1 student as needed.
10. Assist 1:1 student with academic tasks as needed.
11. Accompany 1:1 student to all programs/therapies as needed.
12. Work under the direction of a Registered Nurse.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Civil service eligibility as a School Health Aide: Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma.
     SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:  Depending on the jurisdiction, possession of a certificate of completion for the American Red Cross' Standard First Aid Course may be required at time of appointment*.
2. Medical/health experience preferred.
3. AED/CPR training a bonus; must renew with Monroe One BOCES.
4. Physically able to perform essential functions of the position (with or without reasonable accommodation), which may or may not include, responding to emergency situations quickly (may require running up/downstairs or running to sports field areas).

SALARY RANGE: $20.00 per hour or $150 per day

DUTIES:
Duties may include, but not limited to:
1. Performing treatments and procedures such as (but not limited to) soaks, recording vital signs and weight, medication administration, accompanying students on trips.
2. Screening students for illnesses, height, weight, scoliosis, vision, hearing.
3. Administer first aid as needed using School Health Services medical policies.
4. Communicate appropriately with School Nurse, school personnel and parents.
5. Carry out medical providers’ orders as required.
6. Have working knowledge of school health care regulations.
7. Work under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
8. Administer medications at other locations as needed.
9. Work with diabetic students to assist in becoming self-directed.  

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Civil Service eligibility as a Licensed Practical Nurse: Possession of a valid New York State Registered Professional Nursing (RN) license or valid New York State Licensed Professional Nursing (LPN) license.
2. AED/CPR Certification required; must renew with Monroe One BOCES.
3. Pediatric experience preferred.
4. Must be able to perform CPR in a kneeling/floor-based position for a minimum of two continuous minutes. (This requirement is job-related and consistent with business necessity because: (1) due to the nature of the workplace, this individual may be the only person on-site who is certified to perform CPR and (2) in almost all cases, the individual in need of CPR is at ground level.)
5. Physically able to perform essential job functions of the position (with or without reasonable accommodation), which may or may not include, responding to emergency situations quickly (may require running up/downstairs, or running to sports field areas).

DUTIES:
1. Administer medications per provider orders.
2. Develop, evaluate, and follow Emergency and Individual Health Care Plans for students with medical issues.
3. Monitoring the use of and evaluating the effects of medications dispensed in school.
4. Administer first aid as needed using School Health Services medical policies.
5. Complete health assessments and sports certifications as needed.
6. Participate in providing educational opportunities for staff, students, and parents.
7. Communicate with school personnel and parents.
8. Have a working knowledge of school health care regulations. 

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Civil Service eligibility as a School Nurse:  Possession of a New York State License as a Registered Nurse.
2. AED/CPR Certification required; must renew with Monroe One BOCES.
3. Must be familiar with computer programs.
4. School Health or pediatric experience preferred.
5. Must be able to perform CPR in a kneeling/floor-based position for a minimum of two continuous minutes.  (This requirement is job-related and consistent with business necessity because: (1) due to the nature of the workplace, this individual may be the only person on-site who is certified to perform CPR and (2) in almost all cases, the individual in need of CPR is at ground level.)
6. Physically able to perform essential functions of the position (with or without reasonable accommodation), which may or may not include responding to emergencies quickly (requiring running up/downstairs or running to sports field areas), ability to carry emergency bag weighing approximately 10.5 lbs.
