ELEMENTARY SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER

Position Purpose
Under the general supervision of the School Principal, the special education teacher plans and provides for appropriate learning experiences for students with disabilities in a variety of educational settings.  The person in this position is responsible for creating a flexible program and learning environment that provides specialized instruction for students with disabilities, such that the students benefit from the general education curriculum to the greatest extent possible when supported with supplemental aides, accommodations, and other needed supports.

Essential Functions:
• Provide direct and indirect instructional support to students in a positive environment.
• Work collaboratively with general education teachers to provide instruction in an inclusive setting.
• Employ special educational strategies and techniques during instruction to improve the development of sensory- and perceptual-motor skills, language, cognition, and memory.
• Instruct students in academic subjects using a variety of techniques such as phonetics, multi-sensory learning, and repetition to reinforce learning and to meet students’ varying needs and interests.
• Teach socially acceptable behavior, as determined by the students’ individualized education programs (IEPs) by employing techniques in an overall positive behavioral support system.
• Modify the general education curriculum for students with disabilities based upon a variety of instructional techniques and technologies.
• Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate.
• Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining an environment conducive to learning for all students.
• Meet with parents to discuss their children’s progress and to determine priorities for their children and their individualized educational needs.
• Confer with parents, administrators, testing specialists, social workers, and other professionals to develop individualized education programs (IEPs) designed to promote students’ educational, physical, and social/emotional development.
• Maintain accurate and complete student records and prepare reports on children and activities, as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations.
• Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicate those objectives to students.
• Develop plans for effective communication, monitoring, and follow-up of students in inclusive classroom settings.
• Provide crisis intervention, as needed, for students and those in inclusive classrooms.
• Assist in collection of data for providing appropriate classroom interventions.
• Serve as a member of a multidisciplinary team as appropriate.
• Assist in preparation of data for local, state, and federal reports.
• Maintain professional competence by participating in staff development activities, curriculum development meetings, and other professional opportunities.
• Perform related work as required.

• Knowledge of necessary principles and application of theory into practice for effective instruction and behavioral supports that are beneficial for implementation with all students with disabilities
• Knowledge of research-based instructional strategies and techniques
• Knowledge of human behavior, development, and skill performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders
• Demonstrate the ability to provide positive behavioral support to students in a group and in an individual setting
• Demonstrate an understanding of the federal, state, and local mandates governing the determination and delivery of special education services
• Complete observations and reports pertaining to learning behaviors of students
• Display the ability to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, central office and school-based staff, students, parents and community members
• Possess excellent human relations skills and a working knowledge of the English language in written and verbal form

Educational Requirements and Certifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree required preferably in an approved program for Special Education
• Must be eligible for or possess a valid teaching license from the State of Virginia with an endorsement in Special Education – General Curriculum

Essential Functions

• Implement a plan to support academic performance of student athletes; tutoring, study centers, etc.

• Work cooperatively with the Athletic Department and other coaches.

• Schedule and complete a full season of contests including the entire district schedule of regular season contests.

• Follow all applicable in and out of season training rules to team members in writing prior to the start of the season and coordinate all schedules with the Athletic Director. 

• Follow appropriate due process procedures when team violations occur.

• Serve as a positive example at all times while with athletes and dress appropriately at all practices and games.

• Promote the volleyball program in the community, in-person and through electronic media.

• Arrive on time for practice and games.

• Participate in any awards night programs relative to this sport.

SUBSTITUTE FOOD SERVICE WORKER – JOB DESCRIPTION
 
POSITION PURPOSE: 
Perform the different cafeteria duties in an efficient, clean and friendly manner in which students are served nutritious meals.
 
ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:? 
 
• Prepare quality, nutritious food items as directed by the School Cafeteria Manager.
• Serve food items according to the size portion to meet necessary age group requirements.
• Operate equipment in a safe, proper and efficient manner
• Maintain the highest standards of safety, sanitation and cleanliness in the kitchen.  To clean all kitchen equipment, wash and sterilize dishes, silverware and utensils as assigned to proper sanitation procedures.
• Immediately report all accidents to the School Cafeteria Manager
• Immediately report any product quality or operational problem to the School Cafeteria Manager. 
• Perform other duties as assigned by the School Cafeteria Manager
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
 
•         High school diploma or equivalent.
•         Works well with people, especially children, and maintains a pleasant and positive work attitude.  Also, must be able to work well with fellow workers.
•         Follows proper food sanitation and cleanliness procedures.
•         Possesses technical skills necessary to successfully complete different cafeteria duties and demonstrates willingness to learn new skills.
•         Follows School Board policies and administration procedures.
•         Must be able to follow directions.
•         Ability to manually move, shelve, stack or raise from floor to table to serving area heavy objects (pots, pans, trays, and food supplies) weighing up to 40 pounds.
•        Must be flexible.
•         Be dependable, honest and trustworthy.

• To clear and clean dining area tables and chairs during and after meal service and sweep the floor in the kitchen preparation area.
• To move and store food and supplies.   Products weighing up to 50 pounds.
• To observe areas where help is needed and do whatever is needed to expedite the work.
• To perform such other tasks and assume other responsibilities as the manager may assign.
• To cooperate willingly and follow instructions.
• To display to students, faculty, staff and co-workers an attitude to accommodate and cooperate.
• To perform other related duties as assigned.

Under the general supervision of the building Principal, to provide students, parents, administrators, and other teaching staff with information on career and or educational opportunities; develops and implements effective programs for all students; monitors and evaluates student outcomes; communicates and interacts with students, parents, staff and community; provides an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of all students; develops, selects and modifies guidance lessons and materials to meet the needs of all students.

Essential Performance Responsibilities:
• Develops and provides an effective comprehensive school counseling program to serve the needs of all students.
• Demonstrates knowledge of national, state, and local school counseling standards.
• Provides students and families with immediate and long-range educational planning and course selection as appropriate.
• Collects, analyzes, and uses data to develop, implement, and evaluate the school counseling program. • Provides individual and group counseling for students as appropriate.
• Works cooperatively with school personnel to foster more effective learning climates for students.
• Provides information to parents and families to assist them in acquiring an understanding of students and techniques and strategies essential for academic and personal/social growth.
• Provides consultation and in-service to give teachers and administrators in the school information, strategies, and approaches for maximizing the total development of students.
• Makes appropriate referrals to assist parents/families and students to obtain the benefit from needed special school and/or community services.
• Maintains accurate and appropriate records.
• Provides classroom guidance for students and assists teachers with appropriate follow-up.
• Coordinates the registration process for students and assists with the transitional process for students. • Initiates career awareness activities within the school.
• Provides transitional counseling for students transferring into the school to facilitate a positive adjustment.
• Participates in faculty committees and student activities.
• Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
 
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Must possess thorough knowledge of current trends and best practices for providing a comprehensive school counseling program; thorough knowledge of counseling theories and skills, group dynamics and small group processes, as well as, the ASCA Model; the ability to motivate others to reach their fullest potential; an in-depth knowledge of child development, group and individual counseling techniques, conflict resolution techniques, and community resources; the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school officials, parents, students, teachers, support staff and associates; excellent oral and written communication skills; expertise with internet and computer programs.

Position Purpose

• Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping and providing student information to prospective colleges and employers, as required by district procedures and applicable laws.

Position Purpose
Under the general supervision of the Transportation Supervisor, to ensure the safe transportation of students, staff, and others to and from school, residential neighborhoods, and field trips.

Essential Functions:
• Safely drives a school bus on days when school is in session over designated routes in accordance with time schedules, loading and unloading students at designated locations.
• Transports students, teachers and others on school field or activity trips.
• Inspects assigned bus on a daily basis prior to transporting of passengers to ensure that bus is in good, clean and safe working order.
• Cleans and refuels bus as needed.
• Ensures that a communication device is in proper working order before each trip.
• Reports all mechanical deficiencies, traffic violations, or accidents, promptly.
• Arranges for and ensures completion of routine maintenance of bus (e.g., oil change); transporting the bus to and from maintenance and/or repair facilities.
• Maintains order and discipline in an effective and courteous manner among students being transported in accordance with district policies and procedures; reports any incidents involving student discipline.
• Observes and tracks route timing, such as total time en-route, time between stops, loading and unloading times or any other requested information for the purpose of establishing route efficiency, as requested.
• Maintains and submits records and reports as required.
• Follows procedures to ensure that no child is left alone on bus without adult supervision at any time, and that all children have departed bus at the end of all bus routes (morning, evening and during field trips or other special trips).
• Inventories bus emergency and first aid supplies and equipment; reports needs to the Transportation Supervisor.
• Prepares aides and children for bus drills and ensures bus evacuation drills are held as required.
• In case of accidents/emergencies, evacuates children according to written and practiced procedures, ensures that medical emergency procedures are followed; completes a written report as required.
• Attends and participates in trainings, and other continuing education, career and professional development opportunities.
