Job Summary:
The Coordinator of School Counselors and Behavioral Services will provide leadership, guidance, and professional development to school counselors and behavioral interventionists across the district. This role ensures the implementation of a comprehensive school counseling and behavioral intervention program that supports student academic success, career readiness, and social-emotional development. The coordinator collaborates with school administrators, district personnel, and community stakeholders to enhance counseling services that align with district goals and state regulations. 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
 
• Provide oversight and coordination of the district’s comprehensive school counseling program that is based on data-informed decision-making.
• Work collaboratively with the career and technical administrator to align career connection exploration activities and experiences for students to the strategic goals of the division and state
• Facilitate and coordinate academic career plans for students as directed by the Virginia Department of Education
• Provide oversight and coordination of the district’s behavior intervention services.
• Develop and implement policies and best practices for school counselors to ensure consistency and effectiveness.
• Serve as a liaison between school counselors, administrators, and central office leadership to improve student support services.
• Facilitate professional development opportunities for school counselors to stay updated on best practices and new regulations.
• Support school counselors in implementing and maintaining efforts to help students focus on academic, career, and social/emotional development.
• Plan and facilitate FAFSA sessions to support students and families in the financial aid process.
• Monitor and analyze data related to student outcomes, intervention effectiveness, and counseling program impact.
• Assist with crisis response planning and intervention strategies for schools in collaboration with district and community resources.
• Review and provide guidance on Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), 504 plans, and student support teams as needed.
• Ensure school counseling services align with the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) National Model and state requirements.
• Develop a resource guide to support counselors with community resources, ensuring they have access to available local services for students and families.
• Develop partnerships with community organizations, post-secondary institutions, and career development programs to expand student opportunities.
• Attend state-level meetings to stay informed on legislative updates, trends, and best practices affecting school counseling programs.
• Assist with hiring, onboarding, and evaluating school counselors in collaboration with school principals.
• Provide direct support and consultation to school counselors regarding complex student cases.
• Support the implementation of programs addressing mental health, social-emotional learning (SEL), and behavioral interventions.
• Stay informed on legislative updates and changes affecting school counseling programs.
• Prioritize mental health needs of our students and staff by working closely with school administration to ensure wellness and social-emotional learning strategies are made available.
• Assist in organizing graduation diploma seals and items
 
Qualifications and Requirements:
 
• Master’s degree in School Counseling, Educational Leadership, or a related field.
• Valid Virginia School Counselor License (or eligibility for certification).
• Minimum of five years of experience as a school counselor, with leadership or coordination experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of ASCA National Model, state counseling standards, and student services programs.
• Experience working with diverse student populations and implementing equity-focused initiatives.
• Experience working at the High School Level building and implementing master schedules is required.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to analyze data to inform program improvements.
• Proficiency in using technology and student management systems for data tracking and reporting.
 
Work Environment & Physical Demands:

Position Purpose
Assume responsibility for the instructional program for English as a Second Language (ESL) students.  The ESL Teacher must be familiar with and demonstrate understanding of the Virginia ESL standards and expectations and the 2020 WIDA Standards.  The ESL teacher is expected to communicate effectively with teachers and staff regarding specific EL students and assist in the development of classroom lesson plans, activities, and programming that will ensure that WIDA Standards are effectively demonstrated.  These models of programming ensure that an EL student will make progress in learning English and attain English proficiency, while meeting the state’s academic content standards.  The EL Teacher must have ability to learn procedures to report information, maintain records, and prepare reports.
 
Essential Functions:
• Work with teachers, administrators, and staff to demonstrate use of the WIDA Standards;
• Work within the classroom to assist in the development of lesson plans and activities that utilize the WIDA Standards;
• Work with small groups of students within and outside the classroom to support language development;
• Assist in maintaining student records;
• Maintain appropriate contact with parents, administrators, and instructional tutors;
• Perform a variety of clerical duties including typing, copying, collating, etc.

DESCRIPTION: The Itinerant Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) teacher will provide weekly educational experiences to preschool children based on the IEP goals and objectives in the home or community-based preschool. The Itinerant ECSE teacher will complete referrals from parents, doctors, community-based preschool programs, and the Infant and Toddler program.  This job requires travel throughout Mecklenburg county community daycares, head start, and all elementary MCPS schools.
 
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Consultant. Partner with parents, teachers, and other members of the education team to identify goals and help children reach them.
2. Coach. Empower general educators/ECSE teachers by actively helping them develop the skills and knowledge they'll need to work with young children with disabilities.
3. Assessor. Collect accurate information on both the child and the classroom environment, and support general educators in meeting their assessment responsibilities.
4. Team member. Guide the complex IEP process, manage and resolve conflict, and effectively persuade others to adopt changes and innovations that will benefit the child.
5. Service coordinator. Ensure the smooth delivery of IEP services, stay attuned to community resources that support children and families, and assist with transitions to other programs.  Provide appropriate professional development as needed.
6. Coordinate and complete Comprehensive Study paperwork for referrals of children ages 2 to 4 years old.
7. Train. Train staff and ECSE teachers on Indicator 7s in order to track accurate data each school year.

Position Purpose:  Provide comprehensive school psychological services to students in grades PK-12.
 
Contracted:  10 months 10 days
 
Supervisor:  Director of Student Services 
 
Office will be located at the new school complex.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
• Conduct comprehensive psychological evaluations that include but are not limited to the assessment of intellectual, developmental, academic, social/emotional and behavioral status.
• Serve as member of Eligibility Team, presenting assessment results and determining eligibility for special education
• Interpret and utilize assessment data for the purpose of writing psychological reports and developing written intervention plans.
• Provide individual and group counseling to students as indicated in their IEPs
• Consult and collaborate with school administration, instructional staff, and parents regarding the individual behavioral and academic needs of students utilizing functional behavior assessment (FBA) 
• Provide crisis intervention in response to critical incidents and assists in conducting threat assessments
• Serve as a member of the Child Study Team at the elementary, intermediate and high school levels, as needed
• Participate in IEP team meetings, as needed
• Serve as a member of other school-based teams, as appropriate
• Assist with crisis intervention
