PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Assists in implementing child care programs and assuring that each child is well cared for and safe. Provide routine care for infants, toddlers and school-aged children in a daycare/instructional setting.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certifications:
? Must be at least 18 years of age
? High School Diploma or hold a General Educational Development (GED) certificate ? Meet the State of Texas requirements for Daycare Providers
? Candidate must attend an orientation/training session and complete required district and state/child care licensing credentialing requirements (background check, fingerprinting, etc.)
Special Knowledge/Skills:
? Experience in an infant/child care setting preferred
? Ability to work well with groups of children ranging from ages 6 weeks to 12 years old ? Ability to read and verbally communicate with children, staff, and parents
? Knowledge of child development theories and practices related to the physical, intellectual, and social development of infants/toddlers/and school-age students highly preferred
? Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
? Effective organizational and communication skills
? Ability to relate well to children and adults with courtesy, respect, acceptance, compassion, and patience ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Instructional Support:
? Assist in planning, preparing materials, and implementing daily learning activities for children ? Conduct age appropriate activities for children including but not limited to: reading to the children, and teaching age appropriate songs, games, crafts, and skills
? Observe and monitor children’s play activities
? Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom environment including organizing materials, and personal items belonging to the children
? Clean and sanitize furniture, equipment, toys, and linens
? Sterilize bottles and prepare formulas. Prepare snacks, ensuring safe handling of food for children ? Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports
Student Management:
? Supervise and ensure the safety and security of children in the classroom, on outings, and to and from outside play areas
? Assist children with all physical functions such as feeding, diapering, toileting, walking, dressing, and standing
? Adhere to proper behavioral management techniques as outlined by child care licensing and district standards
? Inform the Daycare Supervisor of special needs or problems of individual students
Safety:
? Keep an ongoing count of children in assigned groups/classrooms to ensure safety and proper supervision of the children at all times
? Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing ? Acknowledge all visitors and maintain a secure environment
? Follow district safety and emergency protocols
? Maintain current cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid certifications ? Ensure maintenance and appropriate use of all building facilities, resources, supplies, and equipment with care and pride; including organization, cleanliness and daily set-up of the classroom

? Participate in staff development trainings/activities to improve job performance and meet state childcare licensing standards

? Tools/Equipment Used: Standard classroom and nursery equipment such as toys, playground equipment, multiple-rider strollers, etc.
? Posture: Moderate standing, frequent kneeling, squatting, bending, and stooping. ? Motion: Moderate walking, climbing, lifting, balancing, and handling or moving materials. ? Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying.
? Environment: Work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); exposure to noise, frequent exposure to bodily fluids.
? Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress and self-control in the presence of children.
