Primary Purpose:
Provide leadership and coordination for district staff on special education programs for improved student performance.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Master’s degree from accredited university
Valid Texas teacher certificate in hearing impaired/special education
Valid administrator certificate
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of issues related to deaf education
Knowledge of curriculum design and implementation
Ability to evaluate instruction programs and teaching effectiveness
Ability to develop and deliver training to adult teachers
Experience:
Five years teaching experience in deaf education preferred
Five years teaching in public school or accredited private school
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Promote student learning and achievement.
- Plan and conduct annual regional deaf education staff
- Assist teachers and administrators in the interpretation of assessment data.
- Serve as a resource for parents, teachers and administrators in regional deaf education issues including the selection of appropriate instructional strategies and materials.
- Assist in the preparation of the budget and administration of the budget for supplies, equipment, and facilities in area of assignment.
Staff Development
- Plan and provide staff development for teachers, administrators, and staff in designated
subject area.
- Disseminate information regarding current research and significant developments on the
State and national levels in area assigned.
- Demonstrate teaching strategies with student in classroom.
Other
- Assist in communicating information to parent and community members concerning deaf education
programs.
- Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
- Keep informed of and comply with state, district and school regulations and policies.
- Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other
documents required.
