Lewis-Palmer School District 38, located in Monument, CO, is looking for a full-time Counselor beginning with the 2025-26 school year. Must have, or be eligible to receive a Colorado Special Services Provider License with K-12 counseling endorsement. Must have knowledge and experience with Special Education, 504s, ALP, and MTSS. Experience with master scheduling preferred. Middle School Counselors work an extra 9 days in the school year. The opportunity to coach athletics and/or sponsor a student activity may also be available. The start date for teachers/staff new to the District is August 1, 2025, and the start date for students is August 13, 2025. Job Summary:
The Middle School Guidance Counselor provides academic, career, and social-emotional support to students through a comprehensive counseling program. This role involves guiding students in their academic planning, career exploration, and personal development while collaborating with school staff, parents, and community resources to promote student success.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Academic Advising & Student Support
Assist students in evaluating their academic progress, including areas of strength and areas for growth.
Monitor student progress and provide interventions for those at risk of failing or not meeting grade level expectations.
Work with students, teachers, and parents to address academic concerns and develop support strategies.
Develop and facilitate 504 plans, coordinate annual review meetings with students and parents.
Post-Secondary & Career Readiness
Organize and facilitate activities that foster self-awareness and understanding of various career options.
Assist students with discovering their aptitudes and interests and explore how those align with various career fields.
Provide guidance on aptitudes, interests, career fields of interest, and available high school pathways.
Social-Emotional & Behavioral Support
Offer individual and group counseling to address social-emotional, behavioral, and mental health concerns.
Provide crisis intervention and collaborate with outside agencies when necessary.
Promote social-emotional learning through classroom lessons and schoolwide initiatives.
Mediate conflicts and support students in developing coping and problem-solving skills.
Collaboration & Consultation
Work closely with teachers, administrators, parents, and community organizations to support student success.
Participate in student support teams, MTSS, behavioral intervention planning, 504 plan development.
Serve as a resource for staff regarding student mental health, behavioral concerns, and academic advising.
Refer students and families to appropriate mental health and social services as needed.
Schoolwide Initiatives & Responsibilities
Assist with student scheduling, enrollment, and transition planning.
Support efforts to improve school climate and student engagement.
Contribute to school crisis management plans and safety initiatives.
Maintain accurate student records and comply with confidentiality and legal requirements.
Assist with the administration of state and district mandated standardized assessments.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
Master’s degree in School Counseling, Counseling Psychology, or a related field.
State certification/licensure as a school counselor.
Experience working with middle school students preferred.
Skills & Abilities:
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Knowledge of academic planning and career development.
Ability to support students’ social-emotional and mental health needs.
Crisis intervention and conflict resolution skills.
Proficiency in student information systems and counseling software.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
Work is performed primarily in a school setting.
May require occasional evening hours for open house nights, parent-teacher conferences, or other school events.
Exact placement on the pay schedule will be determined by the Director of Human Resources upon contracting. As a guideline, we offer up to 17 years of previous contractual teaching experience for a placement of Step 18, per school board policy. This pay range is based on education and experience levels with a range of $47,896-$71,866. The current teacher pay schedule can be found on our website. *This position is eligible for a $2,000 bonus- $1000 to be paid in September and $1000 paid in March 2026 paycheck.
In addition to the one time bonus, a hard to fill bonus of $2500 will be given the same as the regular bonus mentioned above.
