JOB DESCRIPTION:         School Health Assistant
 
JOB REQUIREMENTS:    Medical experience highly preferred, current first aid and
 CPR certification. Ability to exhibit competence in specific
 medical procedures, competent in computer technology, 
 ability to work with children and staff members.
REPORTS TO:                   School Health Coordinator/Nurse and Building Principal
SUPERVISED BY:             School Health Coordinator/Nurse and Building Principal
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:       The School Health Assistant will:
 
1. Assist District Coordinator with nursing services, first aid, illness, and emergency care of students and staff in accordance with school policy and procedures.
2. Correctly administer medication according to documentation provided including insulin, EPI pen, rectal diazepam, and respirator medications such as inhalers.
3. Assist District Health Coordinator in maintaining accurate medical records in compliance with state requirements, including but not limited to immunizations, physical examinations, medical conditions, and medications.
4. Maintain accurate and timely log of all students and staff visits and documentation of individual health records.
5. Complete mandated screenings for vision and hearing within the specified time period.
6. Maintain professional communication with administrators, teachers, other school personnel, and parent/guardians to enhance cooperative action to meet the health and safety need of students.
7. Proficiently utilize district email and Power School for communication and records.
8. Ensure accident/incident reports for students and staff are submitted to Principal in a timely manner.
9. Attend informational sessions and successfully complete training as needed on topics including but not limited to OSHA, Bloodborne Pathogen Standards, CPR, AED, and first aid.  
 
10. Attend regular Health Assistant Meetings.
11. Create warm, inviting, and welcoming environment in the school office.
12. Maintain strictest confidentiality regarding all student and staff issues.
13. Ensure all duties are completed in a manner that will improve, facilitate, or have a positive impact on student learning.
14. Other duties as assigned.
THE EMPLOYEE SHALL REMAIN FREE OF ANY ALCOHOL OR NONPRESCRIBED CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE ABUSE IN THE WORKPLACE OR IN HIS/HER DUTIES THROUGHOUT HIS/HER EMPLOYMENT IN THE CORPORATION.

EVALUATION:    Performance on job requirements will be evaluated annually by the Principal in accordance with Board Policy.

1.                  Perform acts requiring substantial specialized judgement and skill.
2.                  Observe care and counsel children who are ill, injured or in some other way in need of service.
3.                  Assist in the building in caring for first-aid needs of the children; furthermore, the nurse will periodically examine according to established school    policies, children's eyes, hearing, general health, height, weight and any other things which are felt to be of necessity for the student's records.
4.                  When children transfer into the school from another school system, such medical information as required will be secured for the nurse or by the nurse, whichever case is more convenient.
5.                  Insure that a follow-up of this information is accurately maintained in the student's permanent record file.
6.                  As required, assist one another in carrying out the various activities in the screening and testing of children throughout the school system. These nurses may, under doctor's supervision in the case of school district employees, give injections or immunizations according to the limits of the law.
7.                  Assist in the inservice training of teachers and staff concerning the teaching of health techniques to the children.
8.                  Maintain their professional competence and attend inservice and other conferences, workshops and activities which will improve their general operation on the job.
9.                  Be, in a sense, public health nurse and therefore, render services concerned with the same.
10.              As needed, visit homes to render nursing service and instruct families in the care of their children and where there has been a proven incident of health difficulties in the family will make it a point to follow-up physicians instructions relating to the case, as brought to her attention.
11.              Follow-up illness to insure that children who are well, return to school as soon as they become whole and healthy again.
12.              Participate in program safeguarding the health of children under their care.
13.              Assist in the preparation of special studies and in research programs to pinpoint areas of concern within the school and the system so that these areas might be focused upon and preventive or corrective action appropriate to the situation be taken.
14.              Cooperate with the families, the school staff, community agencies and other medical personnel in order to arrange the care of these people and carry out any medical immunization programs.
15.              Monitor other employees that dispense medication, and giving first aid. Provide inservice to these employees on a needed basis.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

JOB DESCRIPTION: McKinney-Vento Family and Student Liaison Assistant
 
REPORTS TO: District McKinney-Vento Liaison
 
JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Experience with working with at-risk and culturally diverse populations preferred.
 
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES/SUMMARY:
 
Responsible for assisting with providing academic, social emotional, and college career-readiness supports for all students who qualify as homeless under the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act by serving as a liaison between families, schools, and the community at school sites. Facilitate positive family-school relationships in collaboration with student support teams by implementing comprehensive parent and student engagement programs and services. Services for students are flexible and varied based on need and include community working with the District McKinney-Vento Liaison and school student support teams to support students and families with issues such as attendance and transportation, supplemental academic supports, physical and mental well-being assistance, and employment, housing, and utility assistance. Works to remove all unique barriers for students experiencing homelessness with emphasis on enrollment, attendance, and school success.
 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
 
 
1. Support McKinney-Vento supports at school sites by collaborating with families, students, and school staff to ensure student success by removing barriers and ensuring educational rights.
 
2. Work to build a team at each school and help the school team provide a welcoming and supportive environment for students and families,
 
3. Work closely with each school’s Student Support Team and District Truancy Officer to engage parents and create Family, School, Community, Partnerships.
 
4. Serve as a liaison between student, support groups, parents, and others to assist in resolving student problems.
 
5. Work with school teams, students, and families on academic, social-emotional, and/or college and career challenges and provide school resources to ensure individual student progress.
 
6. Connect families and students to teachers, counselors, administration, and other school staff as needed.
 
7. Develop and maintain relationships between students, families, school, and outside agencies. This includes working closely with the District McKinney-Vento Liaison and school staff responsible McKinney-Vento programming and supports.
 
8. Assist with the facilitation with school teams of ongoing staff development training to define and review the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act and how it applies to their site.
 
9. Assist with monitoring data to identify and support students and families for McKinney-Vento.
 
10. Assist with completing paperwork and reconciliation documents related to McKinney Vento in timely manner.
 
11. Demonstrates ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students in school environment and community
 
12. Perform all other duties as assigned.
