Gr 5-6 Band Teacher for the 25-26 school year
General Description:
Farmington Public Schools is seeking a passionate and enthusiastic Band Teacher to provide music education and instruction to students in grades 5 and 6. The ideal candidate will inspire students to develop their musical talents, encourage teamwork, and foster a love for music while teaching the fundamentals of band instruments and music theory.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Music Education, Performance, or a related field.
- Valid teaching certification or licensure in Music Education (or eligibility to obtain).
- Proven experience in teaching music, preferably with students in grades 5-6.
- Strong proficiency in playing and teaching various band instruments.
- Excellent communication, organization, and classroom management skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, and parents.
- A passion for music and teaching with an emphasis on fostering creativity and teamwork.
Responsibilities: - Instruction:
- Teach and conduct band classes for 5th and 6th-grade students.
- Develop lesson plans that meet educational standards and goals for student progress in musical skills.
- Teach students how to play various band instruments (brass, woodwind, percussion, etc.), focusing on technique, tone, and ensemble playing.
- Introduce basic music theory, rhythm, and notation to students.
- Provide individual or small group lessons as needed for students requiring additional support.
- Classroom Management:
- Create a positive and respectful learning environment where students feel encouraged and supported.
- Maintain student engagement through hands-on practice and interactive musical activities.
- Performance and Rehearsals:
- Organize and lead regular band rehearsals.
- Prepare students for performances, including concerts, school events, and competitions.
- Collaborate with other music and arts educators to integrate music into broader school programs.
- Assessment and Reporting:
- Assess student progress regularly and provide feedback on improvement areas.
- Maintain records of student attendance, progress, and behavior.
- Communicate with parents and guardians regarding student performance and areas for improvement.
- Collaboration:
- Work closely with fellow music teachers, staff, and administrators to ensure a cohesive arts program.
- Participate in school events, faculty meetings, and professional development opportunities.
- Instrument Care and Organization:
- Maintain and organize band instruments, sheet music, and other teaching materials.
- Ensure that instruments are in good working condition and available for student use.
Salary: $55,018 - $111,829 dependent upon education and experience
