Irving Robbins Middle School is looking for a half time School Psychologist (.5 FTE) beginning August 2025

General Description:
School Psychologists are mental health professionals who assess, diagnose, and provide interventions for students experiencing behavioral, social, or emotional challenges that are impeding academic progress. They focus on the overall well-being and learning capacity of students such that school is a productive environment in which to learn and grow. Their psychological expertise guides the development of assessment protocols and support plans. School psychologists conduct testing, interpret results and collaborate with other specialized service providers to develop comprehensive plans and monitoring systems that support students in engaging in classroom learning effectively. They maintain a focus on grade level academic performance and the development of the skills and dispositions of the FPS Vision of the Global Citizen for students on their caseload. They communicate regularly with classroom teachers, sharing effective strategies for supporting student growth. School Psychologists maintain high levels of confidentiality and demonstrate all aspects of CT’s Code of Professional Responsibility.

Qualifications:

Must hold or be eligible for CT State Certification in School Psychology (070)
Consideration will be given to the following –
- Relevant and recent experience
- References that indicate excellent academic and behavioral support skills, initiative, and a learner mindset
- Philosophy that aligns with the district’s core beliefs
- Various life experiences that enhance contributions to the overall district and/or school community

Salary: $55,018 - $111,829* depending on education and experience,*part-time positions are pro-rated.

They develop Individualized Educational Plans, design strategic instructional strategies, monitor progress with assessment data, and coordinate all services for their students. Working as vital members of a learning organization, special education teachers act as case managers for all students assigned to them. They develop positive relationships with colleagues, parents, and students, working in partnership to ensure that all children achieve academic and personal growth. Teachers demonstrate all aspects of CT’s Code of Professional Responsibility.

Collect, analyze and use assessment data to plan responsive instruction
Provide students with timely and specific feedback that fosters a growth mindset
Work with colleagues to calibrate expectations and deeply understand grade level expectations

COLLABORATION

Develop supportive relationships with students, families, and colleagues
Communicate with families to ensure a positive home-school partnership
Exhibit cultural sensitivity and respect for diverse cultures, values and beliefs
Contribute to a positive school culture and collaborative improvement work

PROFESSIONALISM

Demonstrate a learner orientation – participate in professional development opportunities, take initiative to improve professional practice, learn from feedback, contribute to the learning of other teachers

- Conduct special education evaluations and reevaluations.
- Monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
Instruction and IEP Development:
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) to meet each student's unique needs.
- Adapt general lessons to meet students' needs.
- Plan activities that are specific to each student's abilities.
- Teach and mentor students in various settings (class, small groups, one-on-one).
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work collaboratively with school staff, parents, and other professionals.
- Participate in school staff meetings, PPTs (Plan and Placement Teams), and Treatment Team meetings.
- Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress and IEP implementation.
