Qualifications:              
 
 
 
 
• Candidate must hold an Associate’s degree or 2 years of college credit or its equivalent (i.e. Paraprofessional Assessment).  Bachelor’s degree preferred.

• Candidate must hold or be eligible for Connecticut Public Passenger Endorsement V

• Candidate must pass the required physical examination

• Candidate will be required to provide a urine sample to be tested for the presence of controlled drugs and alcohol. A candidate who refuses to be tested or who receives a positive test result will not be hired.

• Candidate should demonstrate the ability to develop and maintain a good rapport with students and possess a personable relationship with teachers.

General Description: The Transportation/Instructional Paraprofessional provides a variety of instructional services and classroom support to staff and students.  This includes carrying out teacher prepared lesson plans and supervising teacher-planned activities, assisting in the preparation of materials for instruction, and recording individual progress of students.  The transportation/instructional paraprofessional must be able to  transport students to and from school and other school-sponsored events.  Must be able to maintain control of students assigned to the vehicle and submit to random drug and alcohol testing during employment. Paraprofessionals work under the direction of classroom teachers/case managers.

Farmington Public Schools is seeking an experienced Occupational Therapist  starting August 25, 2025

General Description:
Under the direction of the Director of Special Education, the Occupational Therapist provides educational occupational therapy services to students in our Student Learning Center programs Preschool through High School who require  adaptive and functional skills curriculum with our specialized programs . The Occupational Therapist is responsible for the proper interpretation and performance of essential duties and responsibilities. Participates in in-services and organizational meetings for Special Services.  Participates in professional development by attending in-services, workshops, conferences and classes.  Maintains close communication with the Director of Special Educational.  Promotes school and community awareness of occupational therapy.
 
Qualifications:
 
• Master’s Degree from an accredited occupational therapy program.

• Must be a licensed occupational therapist  and  have passed  the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) exam. 

• Minimum of two (2) years of experience  preferred in a school setting.

• Current certification in Physical Management Training (PMT) or Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) preferred

• Experience in developing and implementing a variety of behavior strategies and interventions for effective programming and access to educational programming. 

• Thorough knowledge of IDEA/ ADA and service plan development related to occupational therapy services

• Experience working with students with Autism, Intellectual Disabilities and medically complex needs.   
 
Salary: $61,209 - $110,000 commensurate with experience

Work Schedule:  One hundred eighty (180)  school days and ability to work ESY Summer programming preferred.

Duties and Responsibilities:
 
• Screens and/or evaluates students who have been referred to occupational therapy in the areas of fine motor performance, coordination, postural stability, perceptual motor performance, sensory processing and self-regulation and activities of daily living/functional skills (such as written productions and classroom tool use) with emphasis on present level of performance as related to academic functioning. 

•  Train special and general education staff, parent and other team members on specific interventions. 

•  Consults and collaborates with teachers and other specialists regarding appropriate motor activities, self-help skills, sensory needs, adaptations, and special equipment or assistive devices as necessary. 

•  Implement educational plans as described on individual IEP/IIIP/IFSP and provide information for building staff as needed.  

• Provides monitoring, consultation, direct or indirect occupational therapy for selected students who are eligible for such services. 

•  Maintains close communication with classroom teachers, other staff and parents concerning student’s performance. 

•  Maintains accurate records of students evaluated and served in occupational therapy program; including assessment results, IEP progress and other documentation or reports as needed.  

• Participates in designated team meetings, individual education plan conferences and periodic reviews involving assessment, programming and reevaluation decisions.  

• Schedules occupational therapy evaluation and service times/locations with teachers and building principals.  

• Develops and provides formal and informal in-service programs for teachers and parents regarding occupational therapy.  

• Maintain appropriate records and reports. Collect data on progress on goals and objectives for each student and meet all required timelines.  

• Conduct assessments, comprehensive report results, and follow Minnesota state criteria in area(s) of special education eligibility as well as mandated timelines.  

• Acts as liaison between school district and community agencies, doctors and hospitals as needed to provide collaborative occupational therapy services.

•  Performs other duties assigned by the Director of Special Services.
 

Physical Requirements Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and must occasionally lift, move and/or support up to 50 pounds (and/or up to adult size body weight with two-to-three person lift). Position can require some degree of physical interaction with students who have difficulty controlling physical behavior.
