The Eastern Upper Peninsula Intermediate School District (EUPISD) is one of 56 intermediate school districts (ISD) in Michigan. Every one of the state's 500+ local school districts is part of an ISD. The EUPISD is a regional education service agency with the primary function to provide, or assist our local districts to provide special programs and services. Within our ISD, there are 19 districts covering 4,000 square miles in three counties and part of another in the eastern end of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The total number of PK-12 students is 6,500.
The EUPISD serves local districts by providing educational services and support in special education, curriculum, early childhood, career and technical education, professional development, business services and technology. The EUPISD also pursues business, community, and interagency collaboration. The EUPISD has a long history of collaboration with our local districts that has resulted in the creation of a strong infrastructure in support of all aspects of teaching, learning, compliance, and fiscal management.
The EUPISD is funded with a combination of local, state, and federal funds. The voters of EUPISD have approved a 1.75 mill levy for special education, a .2 mill levy for general operations, and 1.0 mill levy for vocational education. State aid received is based on annual authorizations from the state legislature. Our current budget is $35 million. The EUPISD currently has 210 employee/contractors providing services to our local districts and students.
Purpose of the Position: Provide specialized evaluation, consultation, and direct services to individuals aged 0-26 years with visual impairments.
Period of Employment: 190 days regular school year. Up to 210 days as needed for ESY annually.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master's degree in education related field – special education preferred
- Teaching certification with approval in Visual Impairment
- Three years teaching experience to include at least two years special education teaching experience
- Eligible for approval as a Teacher Consultant (MARSE) or Teacher Specialist (EUPISD Plan)
- Certification as an Orientation & Mobility Specialist preferred.
- Proficiency in Braille preferred.
- Proficient in the use of technology including electronic databases, assistive technology, and email.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative manner with parents and professionals
- Professional tact, diplomacy, and presentation
- Regular and reliable attendance
- Ability to lift/carry materials up to 50 pounds
- Valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide consultation to education and agency personnel within the EUPISD on behalf of individuals on the consultant's caseload.
- Provide direct instructional services to individuals on the consultant’s caseload as per the IEP/IFSP.
- Work as a member of the multidisciplinary evaluation team to assist in development of special education evaluations.
- Work as a member of the IEP/IFSP Team to develop plans that support full inclusion and skill development for eligible individuals.
- Provision of orientation and mobility training services and coordination of regional vision screening.
- Facilitate coordination of care meetings for individuals with complex needs.
- Assist in the needs assessment, purchase, distribution and use of materials and equipment related to the provision of services for VI.
- Assist in completion of local, state and federal reporting requirements.
- Provide leadership in the development and implementation of service activities, equipment, and professional learning activities for personnel related to VI.
- Recommend and assist in implementation of curricula for students to attain expected outcomes.
- Provide education and other agency personnel assistance in the identification and programming for individuals eligible for services ages 0-26.
- Provide contracted consultant services to agency personnel in keeping with contracted agreement(s) to be developed.
- Complete required reporting in a timely manner as required.
- As needed for completion of duties, attend meetings outside of normal working hours
- Remain free of substance abuse and/or illegal drug use at all times
- Other duties pertaining to programming for the visually impaired and hearing impaired as assigned by the staff supervisor
WAGES AND FRINGES: Commensurate with EUPIEA Master Agreement
