The Eastern Upper Peninsula Intermediate School District (EUPISD) is one of 56 intermediate school districts (ISD) in Michigan. Every one of the state's 500+ local school districts is part of an ISD. The EUPISD is a regional education service agency with the primary function to provide, or assist our local districts to provide special programs and services. Within our ISD, there are 19 districts covering 4,000 square miles in three counties and part of another in the eastern end of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The total number of PK-12 students is 6,500.
The EUPISD serves local districts by providing educational services and support in special education, curriculum, early childhood, career and technical education, professional development, business services and technology. The EUPISD also pursues business, community, and interagency collaboration. The EUPISD has a long history of collaboration with our local districts that has resulted in the creation of a strong infrastructure in support of all aspects of teaching, learning, compliance, and fiscal management.
The EUPISD is funded with a combination of local, state, and federal funds. The voters of EUPISD have approved a 1.75 mill levy for special education, a .2 mill levy for general operations, and 1.0 mill levy for vocational education. State aid received is based on annual authorizations from the state legislature. Our current budget is $35 million. The EUPISD currently has 210 employee/contractors providing services to our local districts and students.
Purpose of Position: Facilitate evidence-based nutrition and physical activity programming within schools and/or community sites in the Eastern Upper Peninsula and work within a team setting to create sustainable change within our communities, focusing on increasing healthy food access and free/low-cost physical activity opportunities.
Period of Employment: 35 hours per week/Up to 180 days per year (This is a contracted position and is year to year)
Minimum Qualifications: - Associate or bachelor’s degree in health, nutrition, food service, education, or similar programs, preferred
- Two or more years of experience in education, food and nutrition, or health related programming required
- Understanding of basic nutrition concepts and cooking skills
- Willingness to travel to school sites regularly required
- Flexible weekday schedule required
- Experience working with diverse groups of children preferred
- Experience working with school personnel and parents preferred
- Excellent organizational skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Excellent inter-personal communication skills
- Excellent facilitation skills
- Ability to work independently required
- Computer skills (Microsoft office programs, e-mail, data entry, graphic design software, etc.)
- Must have regular and reliable attendance
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds
Duties and Responsibilities: - Plan and implement lessons to provide nutrition and education through taste testing and cooking demonstrations in classrooms
- Active membership in local coalitions to implement policy, systems, and environmental change within the communities we serve
- Remain free of substance abuse and/or illegal drugs at all time
- Other duties as assigned
Special Considerations: - There may be times when working outside the normal workday is necessary, depending on program needs.
- There will be required travel to districts within the EUP. Attendance at conferences or trainings that require overnight travel is also required.
Wages: $25 per hour; third party contract through Edustaff; position is not paid by the EUPISD
