POSITION: Air Force JROTC Instructor
LOCATION: Monroe High School
JOB SUMMARY:
The Dougherty County School System is seeking an Air Force JROTC Instructor to assist with instruction of students in the Air Force Junior ROTC Program. A JROTC Instructor provides leadership, mentorship, and education to students in the JROTC program. They are responsible for teaching and guiding students on military-related subjects such as leadership, citizenship, military history, and physical fitness. They promote personal responsibility, discipline, and respect while preparing students for future success in life, whether in the military or civilian sectors.
QUALIFICATIONS: - Officer, E6, E7, E8, or E9 with a Bachelor's Degree or Higher;
- Military service or experience in a leadership role, ideally with prior experience in JROTC or other leadership training programs;
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES: - Significant organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, as well as a high degree of patience;
- Strong team building skills and physical stamina;
- Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: - Prepare lesson plans and instructional materials regarding, JROTC curriculum (military science, leadership, fitness, drill and ceremony, and citizenship);
- Assess and grade students on their performance, knowledge, and leadership skills;
- Leads off campus events to include field trips to historical sites, visits to local government agencies and military installations, and to march in parades with cadets;
- Be an ambassador of the Air Force by exemplifying a positive image of the Air Force at all times by conducting themselves in a highly professional manner in both their words and their actions;
- Air Force JROTC instructor is expected to maintain a professional military appearance in uniform, and to comply with Air Force Junior ROTC weight and body fat standards;
- Completes any additional state and/or local school district mandated teacher certification or continuing education requirements;
- Completes the mandatory Air Force JROTC Instructor Certification Course (JICC) as a condition of certification;
- Ensure the JROTC program complies with military regulations and educational standards;
- Maintain safety and security standards for students, especially during physical training and field activities;
- Keep current with changes in military procedures, educational requirements, and JROTC policies;
- Performs other such duties needed or assigned by the supervisor.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to lift and carry teaching materials, books, or small classroom equipment (typically up to 25 lbs);
- Ability to prepare and manipulate learning materials;
- Ability to stand and actively move around the classroom for extended periods;
- Ability to move between classrooms, hallways, and other school areas as needed;
- Ability to respond quickly in case of emergencies, such as evacuating students or assisting during drills;
- JROTC instructors typically work within a school schedule, but some activities (such as field trips, competitions, or training events) may require evening or weekend work;
- Physical activity may be required, especially when overseeing fitness and drill activities;
- The position may require standing for extended periods or working outdoors for certain events;
- Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

SALARY RANGE: Competitive salary and excellent benefits package in accordance with the DCSS Compensation Guide.
