POSITION: Speech Pathologist
LOCATION: Albany High Complex
JOB SUMMARY:
The Dougherty County School System is seeking a Speech Pathologist to join our team of innovative and dedicated professionals. The Speech Pathologist will be responsible for providing diagnostic and intervention services for students with speech, language and hearing disorders in compliance with federal, state, and district guidelines.
QUALIFICATIONS: - Master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology;
- T5 certificate or eligible to receive license according to Georgia state requirements, prefer certificate of Clinical Competence(CCC) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and proficient in sign language;
- Experience in working with sensitive information regarding students;
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES: - Excellent communication and organizational skills;
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion;
- Ability to successfully integrate technology into the classroom while engaging students;
- Ability to relate and motivate all students with respect to learning styles to make learning meaningful, effective, contextual and involving positive interactions for the ongoing intellectual development of young minds.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: - Identifies, evaluates, and provides therapy to students identified with speech and/or language deficits in order to support all involved staff and the students so they can obtain maximum benefit from their educational program;
- Be present, organized and enthusiastically committed to the success of all assigned students for the school calendar;
- Serves as a school resource for staff and parents with regards to speech/language and assists and guides teachers in observing, documenting, and referring students with suspected speech and/or language impairments;
- Identifies and administers appropriate formal and informal assessment instruments needed in diagnosing speech, language, fluency, etc., impairments and administers all screening in speech/language area to determine whether or not further assessment is needed;
- Provides appropriate therapeutic activities to meet the individuals’ needs in the remediation of existing impairments and select and/or designs materials that match the student's needs, as designated by the child's IEP;
- Monitors students’ continuous progress through data collection and observation and provides information/support and training to parents around their child's needs;
- Maintains the degree of discipline and order in the classroom necessary to effectively instruct the class;
- Knowledgeable of state and federal regulations and local policies regarding children with special needs;
- Completes all records and reports on time and with accuracy;
- Creates and follows an agreed upon schedule;
- Attends staff meetings and parent conferences, and serves on staff committees as required;
- Performs other tasks as assigned by Supervisor(s).
WORK/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: - Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and reach throughout the workday;
- Must be able to move between classrooms, offices, and school buildings, including up and down stairs when necessary;
- Capable of carrying therapy materials, testing kits, and equipment (typically under 25 lbs);
- Adequate vision and hearing to perform speech/language assessments and observe student responses;
- Ability to use computers, tablets, and standard office equipment for documentation and therapy planning;
- May require prolonged periods of speaking and active listening;
- Occasional need to assist students with positioning or communication devices, depending on individual needs;
- Must be able to maintain a presence in various learning environments (classrooms, therapy rooms, playgrounds, etc.);

SALARY RANGE: Competitive salary and excellent benefits package in accordance with the DCSS Compensation Guide.
