POSITION: Special Education Pre- K Teacher
LOCATION: DCSS Pre- K
JOB SUMMARY:
Dougherty County School System is seeking a passionate and dedicated Special Education Pre-K Teacher to provide high-quality instruction and support to young learners with diverse needs. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: - Bachelors’ degree or higher;
- Valid Georgia Teacher Certification in Special Education (Pre-K or Early Childhood)
- Experience working with young children with disabilities is preferred;
- Knowledge of individualized learning strategies and early intervention techniques;
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and the Board may find appropriate.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES: - Ability to relate and motivate all students;
- Ability to successfully integrate technology into the classroom while engaging students;
- Ability to differentiate instruction and modify curriculum.;
- Strong collaboration and communication skills.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: - Demonstrate prompt and regular attendance;
- Be present, organized, and enthusiastically committed to the success of all students;
- Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) tailored to each student’s needs;
- Create a structured and supportive classroom environment that fosters learning and development;
- Utilize evidence-based teaching strategies and interventions to support cognitive, social-emotional, and motor skills;
- Collaborate with parents, therapists, and support staff to ensure student success;
- Assess student progress and adjust instruction accordingly;
- Monitor student progress, conduct assessments, and participate in IEP meetings;
- Maintain accurate records and documentation in compliance with state and federal guidelines;
- Performs other such duties needed or assigned by the Supervisor.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: - Ability to lift and carry up to 35 to 50 pounds (e.g., assisting children with mobility needs, classroom materials);
- Frequent bending, kneeling, and sitting on the floor to engage with young students;
- Ability to stand and actively move around the classroom for extended periods;
- Assisting students with self-care tasks, such as feeding, dressing, and toileting, as needed;
- Ability to respond quickly in case of an emergency;
- Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
REPORTS TO: Pre- K Director
SALARY RANGE: 10 Month Contract. Competitive salary and excellent benefits package, in accordance with the DCSS Compensation Guide
