The position includes duties as classroom teacher, contributor to the theology curriculum, and active contributor to the overall growth of students and the school. Will perform all other day-to-day duties as a full-time faculty member at Incarnate Word Academy.
Schedule
7:30 – 3:45 Monday to Friday, August – May

- Ensures that the mission and values of the Academy are upheld within the department.
- Gives witness to integrity and respect while representing Incarnate Word Academy in the broader community.
- Engages and becomes part of the Incarnate Word Academy community.
- Serves all IWA families with compassion and respect.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Teach a maximum of five (5) sections of theology per day (could include a single or combination of Theology I, II, III or IV) in an all-girls Catholic environment.
- Actively access professional development materials and evolve/improve curriculum.
- Support the Campus Ministry program
- Excitedly take on responsibilities above and beyond typical classroom duties.
- Assume normal duties required of all faculty members as outlined in the employment contract.
- Complete eight (8) credits of continuing professional development annually.
- Live the Incarnate Word Academy leadership identity and principles as a role model to students.
- Support and implement the philosophy of Catholic education.
- Participate in building faith community.
- Serve as a content expert and seek out opportunities to expand his or her knowledge.
- Thrive on a collaborative team which promotes daily brainstorming and creative thinking.
- Exhibit a growth mindset and continually improves the way he or she operates.
- Master diverse teaching styles and thoughtfully select the appropriate teaching style for the material and students.
- Often work as a co-learner in the classroom, allowing for student-led questioning and discussion and student-developed assignments.
- Assign homework intentionally, sometimes asking students to recall or apply information but often asking them to analyze, evaluate or create.
- Provide the Academic Dean with weekly lesson plans that align curriculum, instruction and assessment, and integrate technology into the curriculum.
- Use instructional time efficiently and effectively.
- Evaluate student progress effectively, keeping records and reports required by the school.
- Constantly challenge course lesson plans to align with best practices and updated knowledge.
- Build appropriate and professional mentorship relationships with students.
- Value student and teacher wellness.
- Follow directives of the principal and regulations as set forth in the school employee handbook.
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree or above in theology or Catholic studies from an accredited Catholic college or university.
- Must be a practicing Catholic in good standing with the church.
- Completion of 12 credit hours in education courses or holds a valid, state teaching certificate.
- Passionate about teaching theology to young women.
- Demonstrated embracing of classroom technology and experience using it as a tool for learning (Microsoft products, iPad apps, Google apps and classroom functionality such as SmartBoards).
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree.
- Prior teaching experience at middle school, high school or college level.
- Experience with the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston Theology Curriculum:
Theology I: The Revelation of Jesus Christ in Scripture and Who Is Jesus Christ?
Theology II: The Mission of Jesus Christ and Jesus Christ Continues the Mission of the Church
Theology III: Sacraments and Life in Jesus Christ
Theology IV: Living as a Disciple of Jesus Christ in Society and Ecumenical and Interreligious Issues
