Whitko Jr/Sr High School Varsity Football Coach
Position Summary:
The Head Football Coach is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of the high school football program. This includes developing a competitive and character-driven team culture, implementing effective coaching strategies, and fostering student-athlete growth both on and off the field. The coach will design and execute practice plans, develop game strategies, and promote sportsmanship, teamwork, and academic excellence.
Additionally, the Head Coach will oversee assistant coaches, coordinate off-season training programs, and engage with the school community to build enthusiasm for the program. The position requires strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills to ensure a positive and successful experience for student-athletes. The Head Coach must adhere to all school, district, and athletic association policies while maintaining a commitment to student safety and well-being.
Essential Responsibilities
Program Leadership & Development
Establish and maintain a competitive football program that aligns with the school's mission, values, and athletic philosophy.
Develop and implement a clear vision, goals, and strategies for the program.
Foster a positive, disciplined, and inclusive team culture that promotes character development, teamwork, and leadership.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administration, staff, colleagues, student-athletes, officials and parents.
Abide by all IHSAA, Whitko Community School District and Three River Conference policies and procedures.
Coaching & Player Development
Plan and lead effective practices that develop players’ technical skills, game knowledge, and physical fitness.
Design and implement game strategies, playbooks, and scouting reports to maximize team performance.
Provide individualized coaching, mentorship, and support to help student-athletes reach their full potential.
Academic & Character Development
Monitor student-athletes’ academic progress and support their success in the classroom.
Reinforce the importance of sportsmanship, ethical conduct, and respect for teammates, opponents, and officials.
Serve as a role model, promoting positive behavior, integrity, and responsibility.
Team & Program Management
Recruit, develop, and oversee assistant coaches to ensure alignment with program goals and philosophies.
Organize and manage team rosters, practice schedules, and game-day logistics.
Ensure proper care, inventory, and maintenance of equipment and facilities.
Community Engagement & Communication
Build strong relationships with student-athletes, parents, faculty, administrators, and the community.
Communicate effectively with players, families, and school staff regarding schedules, expectations, and program updates.
Promote the football program through community events, fundraising efforts, and outreach activities.
Off-Season & Strength Training
Develop and oversee a structured off-season training program focused on strength, conditioning, and skill development.
Encourage participation in multi-sport activities while maintaining physical preparedness for the football season.
Compliance & Safety
Ensure adherence to school, district, and athletic association policies and regulations.
Prioritize student-athlete safety by enforcing proper conditioning, injury prevention, and medical protocols.
Stay up to date on best practices in coaching, training, and sports safety.
Game Preparation & Execution
Analyze game film, develop scouting reports, and create strategic game plans.
Make in-game adjustments and decisions to enhance team performance.
Foster a culture of continuous improvement through film study and post-game evaluations.
Inspect facilities and athletic fields for health and safety concerns.
Requirements:
Certified Teacher preferred. Teaching position may be available
Playing and/or coaching experience preferred
