SUMMARY:
The Paraprofessional assists in creating and sustaining a community of learners through the development of a positive classroom and school culture, by holding rigorous and high expectations for students, and by utilizing quality instructional practices matched to student learning needs. The Special Education Paraprofessional assists professional staff in implementing individualized student programs for students with specific academic, medical, physical and/or other needs. The General Education Paraprofessional assists professional staff in implementing the goals of the classroom and/or program. The Paraprofessional collaborates and maintains high levels of communication with professional staff regarding student(s) progress and well-being.

Title:   Student Success Specialist 
 
Reports To: Student Support Services 
 
 
Position Summary: 
To create an environment within the school that is favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with pupils; to motivate pupils to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for education, in accordance with each pupil’s ability; to establish good relationships with parents, caregivers and other staff members. 
 
Qualification Requirements:

Education and/or Experience:
• Bachelor degree in Education, Social Work, or Psychology preferred
• Individuals with relevant social work type experience will receive extra consideration
• Excellent reasoning ability 
• Minimum 5 Years classroom experience.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (Other duties may be assigned)
• Support staff in teaching and implementing de-escalation strategies
• Create a climate where students and teachers are proactive problem solvers, shifting from reactive crisis response 
• Familiarity with and ability to employ Conscious Discipline and Restorative Practice strategies
• Develop and implement culturally appropriate and inclusive programming/initiatives that celebrate and recognize all students for their abilities, cultures, achievements, and backgrounds allowing all students to have a voice in such programming
• Observation of staff and students appropriately using de-escalation strategies 
• Collecting data of students independently resolving (or de escalating) negative interactions without adult interventions 
• Create an environment that significantly reduces the number of suspensions, monitoring that reduction occurs each month
• Facilitating understanding of the correlation between behavior, problem resolution and academic success in the classroom/school with parents, students, and staff
• Work with other members of the district and building’s ISSN Team
• Work with the principal to provide periodic training sessions during staff meeting time to refresh staff’s understanding of wellness protocols and to discuss school wide behavior trends
• Work with principal and classroom teachers to identify when and where students are having the greatest difficulty interacting appropriately
• Meet regularly in small groups with students who are more frequently engaged in disputes
