Connections Program Description:
The Connections Program provides classroom-based instruction for students on the autism spectrum or those with similar profiles who require communication development and structured teaching to advance their communication, social, academic, and functional skills.
Serving students from early childhood through junior high school, the program is designed to foster independence, enhance communication, promote a positive self-image, and encourage meaningful social relationships. It creates a best-practice learning environment where academic, therapeutic, and behavioral supports are seamlessly integrated.
Each student’s program is individualized and guided by goals outlined in their Individualized Education Plan (IEP). Daily instruction is structured into academic and therapeutic sessions tailored to each student's needs, with community integration embedded into the curriculum to promote real-world learning and social engagement.
Qualifications:
- Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL and endorsement appropriate to assignment)
- Minimum 2 years of successful teaching experience preferred or relevant coursework within the last 3 years
- Comprehensive knowledge, understanding and skill in content area / assignment
- Knowledge and experience with Google suite
- Excellent communication skills
Responsibilities:- Screen the speech and language skills new students; as well as those referred by teacher, parent and physician
- Participate in annual district preschool screenings
- Schedule and preside at necessary MDC and IEP meetings, including Annual Reviews
- Maintain student records in accordance with state requirements
- Conduct speech and language case studies in order to determine eligibility for speech and language services
- Complete speech and language evaluations as part of a full Case Study Evaluation initiated by the Student Support Team
- Provide direct speech and language services to students, and consultation to classroom teachers and parents regarding speech and language disabilities and their relationship to the classroom
- Preview, program, and plan the use of augmentative devices, as appropriate
- Provide in-class student assistance, or co-teaching, as appropriate to students’ needs listed on the IEP
- Serve as a resource for the SST and parents regarding community agencies for speech and language referral
- Record and report delivered services and related time for Medicaid reimbursement purposes
- Utilize best practices for the application of assistive technology in line with student needs.
- Performs other tasks and projects as assigned by the Building Administrator
